Just a heads up boardsies, but there is an 80 Euro fine for hopping the wall into the South Campus.

Security caught my best friend and bang, 80 Euro on the spot fine - which the silver tongued b*****rd managed to talk his way out of!!

But as it as news to me I figurd I should tell others....

Not in Maynooth it's not. Anything is fair game for campus security to hand out fines for.

How can they force you to pay? There's no sign to say you can't do it. And they'd never bother to get the guards involved if you flat out refuse to pay up.

someone in my class had the same thing happen to them, , is your friend a mr.D.R?

I think were talking about the wall to the side of logic house, cuts nearly 10 mins walk.

First I've heard of this. We should all scale the wall in SWAT gear, see what Security thinks.

Different responses depending on the security/person hopping it.

My brother got a written warning when he got caught.

A charge for trying to get to college faster?

Health and saftey. It actually is quite dangerous (especially in bad weather). Plus teh wall is slowly being eroded by the numerous escapees/refugees every day.

Think one of the lads in my course years ago broke his ankle hopping it

    mad they're fining though :D

Maybe they're saving up enough fines in order to build a proper entrance there,
seems like the most logical answer.....

Absolute madness, I don't quite understand why they make it so convenient to jump though, they have railings and a walkway going right along the wall.

I've jumped that wall every time going into college this year it really does save a bundle of time...

Well there was a gap from Moyglare Abbey into the college that gave us a 3 minute walk, they had a gate right at the gap (a service gate), but that was chained. Then there was a panel pulled out so you could squeeze through, but that's been closed now too. Think that was mainly due to the break ins on campus and people cutting through to get away. But there was another reason I can't say too.

Better sort something out for next year though!! ha

This is because they were half way through building a pathway before stopping.

They should let us finish the job.

We're making decent progress with erosion at the "jumping point" of the wall :D

If they're going to hand out fines, they could at least send out a warning email!

I was caught jumping over by the head of security earlier in the year and he seemed pretty pissed off about it. I asked why they couldn't have an exit there and he said that they had tried, but that residents across the road protested as they didn't want people taking shortcuts through their estate. He said they were still trying to get planning permission to put an exit along that road.

I was threatened with a formal warning at the time, and he went as far as saying that they could ban me from the college grounds, and "how would you complete your degree then?".

    €80 fine though, that's ridiculous.
