The 1st hole will tell you a lot: a good high tee that shows off much of the front nine (tree-lined), a big dip and then the green back up at eye level. And if you think the front 9 is steep, wait till you get to the back.

Decent quality and plenty of difficult rough (not just grass), particularly on the back 9. I think it's a great course - lots of excitement off the tee and some good green settings. I don't remember what the greens are like. With all the slopes and hills, course management is the key.

An under-appreciated course in my opinion.

    Definitely.
I played it about 4 years ago and had been told it was a poor course before that.
    I was surprisingly impressed.
Its a good challenge ,hilly and the greens there were some of the fastest I've putted on.

More often than not the ball is either above or below your feet, making it tricky.
It's a good test and very enjoyable, even though I've heard folk saying it's only fit for goats.

Played the weekend and must say i was impressed. I would agree with all of the above. It is a good challenge especially with the wind blowing. Will be returning.

    Thanks for the replies
