Question regarding Transporter

98 VW Transporter with mileage of 140,000. Passed doe recently.

Would ye steer clear of this?
Its about average mileage for its age but is it a bad idea to go for a van with such high mileage? What problems could arise soon? Is the Doe a decent gauge of the quality of a van?

    Any help much appreciated lads

Also does anyone know how much it would be to get the timing belt done as it might need doing on it soon?

Depends, was it serviced? If not - find a barge pole.

    If >10k miles then maybe.

    If <10k miles then yes.

Mileage is not relevant, servicing is.

A vehicle running in good fresh oil doesn't wear.

100% agree with servicing. Check to see if lower ball joints been done recently as they are a common failure.

DOE doesn't guage the quality of the van. It just deems it road worthy. The engine court be knackered, the body could be in bits etc.
