    Hello

    We use small ( 0.75-15kw) DOL 2 pole AC motors to drive blowers and fans. We are forever getting ask questions about torques and starting time, no load conditons etc and a range of more complicated and BS questions by our clients. My question is, does anyone know of any company that offers some type of general training on motors? or even basic electrical engineering so we can get a better understanding of the basics?

    Thanks

    Frogeye

    howdy frogeye i dont know of any appropriate courses but there are plenty of smart people here who can help. if you put up a list of the common questions we can give you some formulas or rules of thumb.

    torque for instance is basically angular force. or or the force times the distance from the point to the center of the shaft.
    and power is torque times speed.
    p=t x s
    since you know the power and presumably the speed its a simple calculation to get the torque.

    now there are plenty or ways to complicate this depending on what you know about vectors, inertia etc.. but for envelope type calculations thats the jist.

    what do you know about electricity and what do you get asked about motors?
