Possible change of living arrangements

Im currently receiving full dole (196), Im 27 and currently living at home with parents, and of course actively seeking work. The environment im staying in isn't that great at the moment, and to be honest i've been thinking of moving out for quite a while now. I have savings and although i am well aware this will be eaten into while I am on the dole, I am strongly considering moving out and into rented accomodation.

What am I wondering is, will the change of address and the fact i would be living alone in rented accomodation change my entitlement or amount of dole. I of course would rather be working but while I am on it I would like to know what may change should i strongly consider moving into rented accomodation.

Thanks for any help anyone can advise

You need to be living in rented accommodation for 6 months before you are entitled to Rent Supplement.

Nothing will change but as the above poster said you will not get rent allowance so you will have to fork out full rent payments for 6 months then you could apply for rent allowance

Oh I knew i wouldnt get rent allowance for 6 months, that wasnt the purpose of the question. But thanks for the information anyway.

It was just to clarify whether they would reevaluate the amount I would receive. Thanks for the information.

Your dole payment would not change unless your move involved living with a partner and if you are on JA you would then be means tested taking partner's income into account.

By the way, in case the matter of applying for rent supplement should arise, while it is true that one of the qualifying conditions is that you be renting for 6 months, there is an alternative way of qualifying and that is to apply for and be accepted by the local authority as being in need of housing.
