All time favourite comedy series!

    I'm at the stage with my DVD collection where I'm finding it really hard to find new comedy. So what are your favourites or what would you reccomend? I can't stand ads on telly so I never bothered hooking my telly up to the aerial when I moved house so I buy a lot of DVDs instead, this is what I've collected so far;

    The mighty Boosch
    South Park
    Family Guy
American dad (really good but still not nearly as good as family guy imo)
    Father Ted
    Peep show
    The inbetweeners
    Bottom (the early series)
    The green wing
    Ren and Stimpy
    Black Books
    The IT crowd
    Brass Eye
Sponge bob (ya it totally counts)
    The young ones
    Spaced
    The league of gentlemen
    Futurama
    Flight of the concords
    Jam
    Extras
    The office
    Monty pythons flying circus
New to the list today: Garth Meranghis Darkplace

I can't stand curb your enthusiam before anyone reccomends it, I bought it on the advice of a friend and was very unimpressed. I also just ordered snuff box and man to man with dean learner, no idea if they're any good or not yet though.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance! :)

    No Arrested Development? GTFO!

Also, just finished Season 1 of 30 Rock and while I wasn't that impressed at the start it really improved through the first season.

There's a few recommendations threads around if you're bothered looking for them.

I forgot about arrested development. I watched one of the series when we had a friend staying and tbh I didn't really get into it, I don't know why maybe a bit American for my tastes. I think it definately deserves another go though so will try again often the best ones are the ones you hate the first few times you watch them (flight of the concords for me). heard 30 rock was good never got a chance to see it yet will check it out.

But, but, but....it was so un-American it got cancelled? While i wouldnt go so far as to say its the best comedy ever, i'd say its the best modern comedy.

Ok I'll definately give it another go so it seems I'm very much out numbered on this one. I'm like that though I often really dislike comedy and then grow to love it later, I couldnt' stand south park or family guy initially either.

Ok I think I need to work on the classics ni particular don't know why they don't occur to me when I'm looking for stuff. I'll order some red dwarf and black adder now. Borrowed fawtly towers from a mate before and found it unbarably cringey I know thats the point but I jsut didn't get it.

I know but the office is more psychological cringe isn't it. I don't know why I don't get it the boyf loves it. Maybe it's a bit of a generation thing, the boyf is 9 years older than me and he's really into some of those older ones that I just dont get like only fools and horses etc.

Got it and love it! Chris Morris is such a legend! You should check out his other series Jam, it's not for the faint hearted but it's brilliant, have the vallium at the ready if you watch it.

I'm gonna order Stewart Lee's comedy vehicle at some point too, Morris is involved in that too so it's a good bet.
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin

    Nice one!

Nope I only watched one season though, I thought the first episode was funny but then after watching a few every episode is the exact same and I don't find everything going so horribly wrong for him very funny after a point.

I know what you mean, you'd expect it to be just a girly drama or something. but its like a sitcom with more depth, and at 44 mins an episode. oh and kirk is great!

    Two words

    "Police Squad".
    Leslie Nielsen at his best.

and for Reg Perrin make sure it's the original and not the Martin Clunes remake

Nice to see the shout outs for Gilmore Girls, a fantastic show, much much better than I ever expected it to be! Flew through the 7 seasons in no time! Last 2 were not as good as the first 5, but still a lot better than most things on tv.

In terms of US comedy, Arrested Development is an absolute must. One of the few shows that seems to get better and better every time you rewatch it.
In terms of UK comedy, The Thick of It is just incredible stuff, particularly if your semi up to date on UK politics.
And Peep Shows just a classic by now!

Hard one for me as I love scrubs so much but for sheer LOLness I'm going for modern family, There is usually at least one spot in each episode where I have to pause so I can laugh and not miss anything.
