Hi all. dropped my Iphone in some water. it was retrieved more or less straight away but isnt working at the minute. CAn this be fixed or is it beyond repair. Also, if it can be repaired, are there any places around Limerick that can fix it?

    Cheers

Put it in a sealable plastic bag with some rice in a warm place ( hot press maybe ). Have read success stories. The rice soaks up the moisture. Nothing to lose. ;)

That worked a treat for me with my phone (not an iphone). I didn't even put it in the hot press. I just repeated the bag of rice trick for two nights in a row and that fixed it.

Did you have to take the back off the phone when placing it in the bag?

You can't take the back off an iPhone, maybe take the SIM card out. I've heard a few hot press success stories, not least from a colleague who also has an iPhone, so definately worth a try!

I would open it up first, just get a small screwdriver and a sucktion cup

This happened to me a few weeks ago.

Turn it off if it didn't automatically turn off. Take out the SIM holder. Put in a container of uncooked rice (so that it's well covered) or in a bag of rice, somewhere warm, like an airing cupboard. Leave for as long as you can stand.

Seriously. Forget you own an iPhone for at least 72 hours. Don't turn it on, don't go near it.

I took it out after a few days, turned it on, charged it up and it was fine - a bit wonky for a day or so but now it's perfect again (or at least as perfect as it had been before the drowning incident). There was a bit of moisture under the screen which disappeared after a few hours of being in my jeans pocket.

The best of luck - I can remember that sickening stomach flip you get when you realise what's just happened...

Has the water indicator gone red?(circle around ear phone socket)

I dropped mine in the jacks, after several phone calls to apple i sent it back some problem with the software:D

Sent me out a spanking new phone, however my indicator did go red for some reason, but give it a go once you didnt jail break!..

ok, nail varnish remover can make them white again, and you can always restore.

Would silica gel work to absorb the water?

Rice is pretty cheap these days

Wasn't debating that fact just thought that the silica gel might be more effective since it's purpose is to absorb moisture?
