Right, I'm fascinated at this stage at the amount of people that are actually surprised that the writers were making it up as they go. I think somewhere, sometime, people got the impression that every single mystery, every single thread within Lost was of ultimate importance. That every single nuance was planned.
I'm not sure how this came about to be honest. I have never once heard the writers state this.
Anyway on to the point of the thread. I was watching a few of the clips on Basquilles thread Times Talk Live and came across this question specifically put to the writers.

Rather than leaving it up to everyone to go through all those videos (as there is 1hr 50min in total) I thought I would post this specifically so everyone can just listen to the writers for 3 minutes and understand how the Lost TV show was written. Perhaps it will put to bed the screams of "They were making it up", and stop the rest of us from screaming back "We know, we never thought otherwise".

So, watch this youtube clip if you want to know whether or not they were making it all up.

The question is asked 5 min 15 seconds in.

still watching it.... forget that few minutes, watch the whole thing.
A great insight into the show and how different aspects came about.
