request that o2 uk unlock it if you meet their criteria

    then

purchase a meteor prepay sim, opt into the free meteor texts/250 mb internet per month (20 euro topup per month)

    OR

go on a bill pay lite sim only plan (monthly rolling contract) with a data add on.

    Pay Monthly customers
Yes. If you're a Pay Monthly customer, then your iPhone can be unlocked at any point for free. Don't forget that you will still need to honour the remainder of the minimum term of your contract.
    Pay & Go customers
Yes, you can unlock your iPhone for a one-off cost of £15. You'll pay for this from the money topped-up on your phone.

But if you unlock your iPhone less than 12 months after you bought it, we'll take off the free Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On (that we added for the first 12 months). You can buy a Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On for £10 a month when you fill in the unlocking form. Find out more about the Web & Wi-Fi Bolt On here.

Complete the unlocking form - it will take up to 14 days for the iPhone to be unlocked and we'll text you to confirm the unlock request.

Place a non-O2 sim into the iPhone and connect it to iTunes via a USB cable. iTunes will confirm that your iPhone has been successfully unlocked.

heres the unlocking form - https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form

I'm looking at picking up an iphone myself, I'm on the meteor network.

With the contract I have and the data plan I can get it would be finacialy perfect whislt meeting all my needs.

My main question is , I'd love to be pointed in the right direction.

I'm looking for the 3g model, the extra features on the 3gs doesnt really for me, warrant the extra price tag.

The storage isnt a huge thing either, ( i think they are 8 and 16gb correct?) 16gb would be lovely but the 8gb would be plenty.

I'd prefer a new one but I'd be ok picking up a second hand one.

Just looking for some info from those in the know about my options.

    Thanks in advance ;)

    Edit**

Also if its possible, ar ethey sold new unlocked from o2? I know carphone warehouse carry iphones and they are willing to offer me €100 trade in on my current phone which might be a turning point

be catefull with any unlocked iPhone!!!!

I have unlocked 186 phones so far without any problems,
There are very few phones that are unlocked by the network opperators.
If it is not unlocked by the opperator (o2) then you can not update them through iTunes or you will loose the unlock.
I have unlocked iphones using different methods, send me a mail if you are unsure if the unlock is from the carrier or if it has been Jailbroken(iPhone Hack) i can tell you how to find out the differance!!!
New methods of unlocking the iphone are not being published publicly on the net untill after June 11th (launch of new os4.0 and next generation iPhone 4.G) because apple will block these exploits.

Feel free to contact me if you have a iPhone which is not working because of an unlock that went wrong/updated software by mistake/stuck on o2
Or if you just want to unlock it from o2?

    iPeace Out
