I have an exam tomorrow that I have gotten a doctors cert not to sit as I am ill, however I still wish to do it.

If I sit the exam and fail it does it mean that I will not be eligible for a repeat in August? Would I be better off just not doing it tomorrow?

have you advised your department and dept manager exams office etc that you are sick?

As far as I know if you sit the exam then whether you're sick or not doesnt make a difference, if you produce the doctors note you'll sit it in August instead but with no penalty for doing so. So - if you think you're well enough to sit the exam and do your best - and you feel you've studied well enough then go ahead and sit it today, otherwise wait until August.

You might contact your dept just to make sure the above is the case but i'd imagine it is.

Think the claims for mitigating circumstances during exams go to a committee after the Summer exam board. Generally speaking, they seem to be quite accomodating to people who fall ill during the exam and the pass 'cap' on the Autumn exam is normally waivered. This is if, of course, on the premise that the correct procedure has been followed, i.e medical certificate, informing respective Faculty & Departments, as well as E&R office.

Too sick to do the exams for real but not too sick to do the exams as a kind of practice exam? Illness for examinations is meant to be for the exam itself, not for time leading up to the exam or anything like that.
