Satellite for a month?

I still live at home but will have the house to myself for a month and I'd love to watch the World Cup/Wimbledon in HD! Currently we have ****ty UPC analogue. Is there any viable option out there for me temporary wise? I see B&Q are doing a dish and tuner for €87. I was thinking of putting the dish out the back...would it need to be drilled in? I've no experience with these things such any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Or am I just nuts? :D Thanks guys!

for €87 i dont think it will be a hd receiver.

not worth it for a month or even 2.

  • It is a hd receiver. There's a thread about it in Bargain Alerts. In fact there was a special offer last weekend and it was even cheaper at €75.

+1 - it is a HD setup - very good value for a bargain basement entry. It is a ROSS FTA system including dish + single LNB - was €120.

87 is still a bit high for 1 month. unless the parents might allow it to stay.

If you only have UPC analogue - do you even have a decent size HD tv ? If you don't then there really is not much point.

Yeah we got one of those 32" Technosonic LCD Tvs that there was also a Bargain Alert here on. It says it's HD Ready anyway. Analogue looks great on it....not!

I disagree. It would be correct if standard definition broadcasts looked great but let's be honest they don't.

It is true that you wont get the same benefit that someone with a 50" tv will get but the picture from a HD channel on even a 32" tv will look a hell of a lot better than it's standard definition counterpart.

I bought one of those 32" Technosonics and analogue looks alright on them.

I agree you can see the HD difference on a 32" HD ready set - I can see a difference on my 23" HD set.

I meant that if OP had a small HD set (26" or less) or a basic CRT set - then the effort & cost for 3-4 weeks probably wasn't worth it.

If it was me I'd be going for it if I had a HD set which the OP seems to have.

if u have clear line of site to satellite the dish can go anywhere. the mount may even allow a ground mount where u could weigh the mount down with blocks! ive a 70cm in my back garden weighed down with 2 building blocks, hasn't moved in 2years!
