ok, so im thinking of taking care of a few foxes for the neighbours this summer, their going at calves, but all i have is a 12g SxS.
is this going to be be ok, or should i suggest they get someone in with a rifle??

Shotty will work well with BB or similar on foxes.
But the range will let you down, easier with a rifle IMHO, but I know a few that do well with shotguns

A rifle gives you more scope pardon the pun, you can call them if you want and be hidden and when they appear bye bye foxy

its hard to get close with a shotgun this time of the year, shotgun is better use during the winter when there is a good scent so you can use dogs to flush them out to you, better off using a centrefire rifle, i'm sure somebody here will help you out if they are in the right area

Better off having 2 guys one with rifle and the lampman with the 12g with AAA or BB for close range.
    Deadly combo.

shotguns are perfect for lamping if you have a caller or electronic call that works very well! download them from westernrivers.com i think, best one is "cottontailyoung" then send to your mobile and play it at night they normally come running even to a low sound device like a mobile!
works like a charm for me and others around the area! shud call charles in for u 2!!:D

Summer evening fox shooting can be rewarding, you will need an electric caller and some patients, plan where you will hide, plan the most likely aproach by the fox and set up the caller about 30yds out. It can take up to 45min for him to come but give it time and he will,he will come in fast, he will get within 10yds of the caller and realize he has been done and try and bolt it, if there is cover you have very little time to react, you may not even see him till it's too late.
It is a bit like fishing in my book, nothing for ages then major action.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

bbs and aaa are overkill for foxes stick to no1s or 3s they have more than enough kinetic energy and much much better pattern ;), a great way of shooting summer/autum foxes is get up a tree in a likely spot and keep your eyes open , if you don't get a shot that evening you will probably see a fox elsewhere and you can get into a position to shoot it the next evening if you spot one at 7.45pm he'll be in the same place within 10mins or so the next night squeeling works well from a tree too imho

If they are taking calves then AAA or BB may be under powered, you need to go to 000:D
