If a player using a stiff shaft on driver was having problems with a slice would a regular shaft make the problem worse or lessen it. Happening a friend and was wondering would it help, i'm not sure a stiff shaft is suitable for him. But not sure of the technical side of it and if a REG shaft would help/hinder his progress.

    What do ye think?

Without being a pro I couldn't tell you for certain! But using everything I know about golf would suggest that gettin a regular shaft wouldn't help at all! It would amplify the problem!

It's a possibility that the driver is too long for him.. That could cause a discrepancy in his back swing which could lead to him cutting accross the ball on his downswing!

How's his grip!? I thInk he needs to hit the range and really concentrate on wrapping himself around the ball!

I had a driver fitting session last year - on the launch monitor was slicing everything, and from the pro's feedback he recommended a regular flex shaft (& lessons!) over a stiff flex as he said that the s-flex shaft would just amplify the slice. I had a swing speed that ordinarily would suit an s-flex shaft but I could see myself from the swing monitor that the slice wasn't as severe with a regular flex shaft.

Did he say what speed your swing was!? I have it in my head that faster equals stiffer!?

It was around 100mph and yeah, generally speaking a faster swing speed would mean a stiffer shaft flex

The shaft might not be the problem. Could be his swing or could be ball position (or all three) or maybe his swing is a fraction out and he has too little loft......

I would suggest a check up lesson.

it may be the weight of the shaft. I had a fitting session. My old driver wasa regular shaft but weighed 65g. The new one been made is a Cobra S2 but the shaft is stiff and light at 55g. This means its stiff but at the tip its a little less stiff so it whips into the ball. I was hitting it great and straight the heavier shaft was causing the ball to go right.

if the shaft is 2 stiff it will fly 2 the right if it is 2 week it will fly to the left.if the trorque is lo it will fly 2 the right and feel hard if the torque is high it will fly left and fell soft. shaft weight depends on how stong you are,how hard you hit it and how short your swing is chooseing the right shaft for you is the question it ant just about swingspeed?

Personally I like a nice stiff shaft...

And a good swinging motion with the balls too:D
