How many schools have to wear uniform during their junior cert? My principal decided we would be the 1st year to wear uniform!! Can they apply school rules on a state exam?

The short answer is yes, they own the building and can insist on a particular 'dress code' for those entering it.

There really are bigger arguments to expend energy on than the uniform one.

We have to wear our uniforms too but I would much rather wear what I wanted to. I would feel much more comfortable :)

In my school I had to wear my uniform for the JC because I was still part of the school and still a pupil.

I would worry more about the questions on the paper than the clothes on your back!

Who said anything about clothes? ;P

If you arrive in normal clothes they'll hardly refuse to let you into the exam after spending 3 years on you. However I'm just going to go with it.

I had to wear mine when I did my Jr. Cert 3000 yrs ago! Was not impressed at the time but it actually makes sense if you think about it. If you're sitting in a room with a crowd of ppl, all dressed differently, then you are more likely to be distracted and will spend valuable time looking around at ppls clothes.
Also, for some ppl, the exams will be v stressful, and they will not need the extra stress of having to choose different outfits to wear everyday, esp for those who may not have the most up-to-dates fashion brands and labels. Good luck with the exams BTW:)

Have to wear my uniform, but not too bothered tbh! Knowing me, I'd spend more time in the mornings picking out an outfit than actually concentrating on my exam :P

Almost all schools make the JCers wear uniforms. :)

From the supervisor's point of view, uniforms make it a lot easier on the first day, or until you get to know faces in your centre. After that, it's not so important, but if the school says full uniform, full uniform it is.

Well I doubt some random person is going to walk in off the street and say that they're doing their JC. Now that would be funny :p

You might be surprised at what goes on.
Security for LC externals is quite tight as a result of past events.
JC Externals tend to be from workshops or Adult Ed. groups so there isn't the same issue.

Uniforms for us also :(, they also sent out a text message to all 3rd year parents advising them that contrary to rumours being circulated, we still have to wear our uniform so there's no foolin' them!

    True story:

Uniform has been compulsory for JC in our local school for years.
A few years ago, a neighbour decided to walk home for lunch. It rained, she got soaked, so she changed into a different pair of trousers, and went back to school. She was refused admittance to the exam hall - and had to return home and get changed back into her school trousers!:eek:

Schools can get nasty if you break their dress code - just thought I'd let you know!
