Seen this and thought I'd share it here....

Great value for such a good headset

I have been looking for a good gaming headset for a while and had decided on getting these X11's, amazon seems to have the lowest price considering they qualify for free delivery(includes shipping to ireland). So for an "entry" level headset €50 is not too bad at all.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Turtle-Beach-Force-Headset-Xbox/dp/B003A7HHKG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1274794853&sr=8-1

I have heard of these going for €60 in the bricks and morter stores. The only problem would be that they wont ship until after the 4th of june.

Still a lot of money for what it is _ a headset. I'd never buy one, though it does bug me the advantage ppl have when playing...

Just use regular headphones and put the mic in front of you. Play voices through the tv. Its what I always do.
I was going to buy a pair of turtlebeach but I have a high quality pair of headphones that do the job and can be used for other things than just computers.

    Still good price for them.

I tried that and although it was a bit of a pain it was better than not having a headset but now I have the X11's I can honestly say it was the best €60 I have spent in a long time !!!

Its well worth it. The difference really is amazing.

I'm gonna upgrade to the wireless ones at some point.

Hmm. You have intrigued me. I am tempted to get a pair, what put me off at the time was I was having some problems with my TV, but I have since got a new one. Also from reading some reviews it said there was some distortion.

What difference have you noticed sound wise between regular headphones and turtlebeach?

I have a pair of sennheiser HD555s myself.

i know the 15 feet or so (...mild exageration maybe) of cable can be annoying but i heard the wireless chew through the batteries. also problems with wireless connections to so ive heard so you may want to read into them before you pi** away even more money. still though...some headphones :D

Thanks to one of the guys on here, I've now been able to hook them up to the telly without needing the Component cables.

HDMI connection from the XBox for sweet visuals, plus cracking sound by using the Audio Out feed for the headphones.

Plus it means you can scare the bejaysus out of yourself when watching a movie in the dark with your headphones on and turned up loud. All TV sound through the headphones regardless what's on the box. :D:D

how the bejaysus(great now its in my head) did you get the tv noises playing as well as the box

i cant wear them for extended amount of time i keep catching my reflection on the tv and its just SUPER NERDY :D the look of utter concentration on my face is unreal .....if only they could have worked modern warfare into a school ciriculum somehow

You put the two audio cables (the red and white one) from the Headphones, into the Audio Out sockets (red and white ones) on the back of your telly. However, not all TV's have that Audio Out, but if it's fairly new it should have. This means that the sound comes from your XBox, via the Telly to your Headphone.

The slagging I got off my missus at first for the headphones for that nerdy look. But she doesn't bat an eyelid at it now.

    Hi,
Just ordered these today, and just a word of warning, do not order these from Amazon as suggested earlier, as i placed an order with them on monday along with other items and nothing was shipped because the Headset was not available untill june 4th, today i get an email saying they dont know when they are getting them in stock and i will be notified when they have them, so i promplty cancelled my order, after a quick search i found them on game.co.uk at a price of 57.50 delivered and since placing the order they have been dispatched already, although Amazon is cheaper, they are not worth the hassle, i have bought from Play, Ebay and Pixmania in the past, this was the first time i used Amazon and it will be the last!! Cant wait to get these though ive heard they are great!

Are you talking about the X11?
They are selling some through a marketplace seller on Amazon that does not deliver to Ireland, otherwise Amazon.co.uk do not have any stock, good to hear you didnt have the same expierience as me, but Game were the better choice imo as i should have the headset by tuesday, postage from Game is only £2.95 which isnt as bad as some sites, anyway just thought id post this here in case anyone else was is having the same expierience with Amazon on the X11 headset, You will get them faster through Game gauaranteed!

Apologies, didn't see that it said accessory shop instead of amazon. Got my x11's yesterday and they are worth every cent, couldn't believe the difference they made. The first thing I tried them on was MW2 and some of the kills I got hearing footsteps behind me was unreal, until I got knifed in the back with a guy using ninja :pac:
Definitely worth picking up especially at around €55.

Saw these in Hmv today for 40 euro.
Since my mic broke last week,I'm considering getting them but I only used my old mic for voice/communication and the sound I think not being so good on black ops I might just get another cheap 8 euro mic from xtravision.

They have good reviews which is the most important part, seem to have a good following in the gaming community and they're cheaper compared to a fair few alternatives.

I'd extremely recommend a good set of headphones though, when my family see the headset's on, they know shíts going down. :pac:

I have AKG K930 Wireless Semi-Open Dynamic Headphones that I use with Blops. I've had them a few years, only recently starting using them with COD, after reading here what a benefit it can be.

And it is fantastic... there is sometimes distortion (presumably due to wireless) but never that bad, and normally between games. Once in the game you don't even notice.
And batteries aren't an issue as it's a rechargeable system.... I just pop them on the station when not in use.

Anyway, on to the point. These do not have a mic on them. I don't use a mic most of the time. I play 70% FFA, so it doesn't matter, but I would like a solution when playing Team games or private matches.
I can't think of any other way than getting an new set, which I would like to avoid. Any ideas?
I read someone above saying they used a separate mic in front of them... would that actually work well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,340 ✭✭✭yimrsg

You can set up your sound preferences to have all the sound; (game and party chat) going through either your tv (game and party chat), or separately; tv (game) and mic + headset (party chat). Think it's on the profile setup.

If you set it up as all sound out via tv and have the headset around your neck, you hear the party chat and sounds via headphones and can talk via the mic. I also use audio headphones and don't want to pay for a dedicated gaming pair and use this solution.

The only problem is the chat/game volumes aren't separate so it's hard to distinguish them at points or if a person is quiet.

Do most people play all sounds through their headset?
My old cheap headset I just used for chat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,553 ✭✭✭✭everlast75

I have X31s and channel everything through them - the TV volume is effectively on mute...

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,139 Mod ✭✭✭✭Mr. Manager

Same same. I dont understand the purpose of having the headphones on with the TV volume up

Defeats the purpose IMO. Game and Chat come through the headset and the TV is at 0. Missus can play away on the laptop without listening to "SR-71 online" - followed by "friendly Huey on the way" - which inevitably leads to "friendly dogs coming"

    Everyone's a winner

I had a pair of x21's but I recently snapped the cable.

Personally I didn't think they were great and I wouldn't tell anyone to buy them.......although you could hear the footsteps you have no idea where they're coming from. Basically just like playing with the t.v up loud.

This time around I hope to get a surround sound pair.

I bought the Tritton AX180 yesterday in argos for 70 euro, an have found them to be better than the turtle beach, although it might just be in my mind, we were playing on radiation yesterday an I was at the b bomb site on my own, while the lads held down a, no one was going to be, sitting I said I would stay there just in case some smart arseholes decided to do there instead, I was at the back of the b building and could clearly hear the guy planting the bomb, wit the turtle beaches I wasn't able to do that, so far I'm loving the Tritton's

they're not surround sound though. IMO buying a headset that isn't is a waste of money (like my px21's)

What kind of TV do you have?

If it's new enough should work pretty easy, Look at the back of the TV for the array of component sockets, and specifically look for the one that said Audio out. It will probably have brackets around the red and white sockets.

Plug the red and white cables into the correct colours and plug the beige headphone jack into beige socket at the end of the audio out cable.

Plug the USB into your xbox, and viola, should work for all audio coming out of your TV not just your xbox, so long as the xbox is plugged in.

    Some finlux brand or something.
I audio out if I'm using a S-Video/Audio Cable to connect to the tv,its when I use my hdmi connection to the tv that I get no game sound
