Considering a change of workplaces but before I apply, what are peoples views of working in the big 4 audit. Should I just try get into industry. Does the pain of working in big 4 outweigh the benefits career wise.

Im aca qualified 1st time, 4.5 years in audit total.

At a bit of a fork in the road for my career.

You'll find it extremely tough to get into Big 4 in Dublin given that you are already qualified.

The limited positions that the big firms have available post-contract are being filled internally by their own trainees who have come to the end of their contracts.

I'm open to correction, but I dont think any of the Big firms are openly recruiting externally for qualified staff. My firm certainly isnt.

I would think the first thing to do is figure out what you want to do in life, what are you passionate about, what do you find interesting and how do you see your CV in 10 years time....

For my part I qualified with one of the big 4 and from that day to this, I've had nothing to do with accounting! I was far more interested in technology and for the past 20 years I've been freelancing as a software developer in Switzerland!

Another colleague I know finished his ACA at a big 4 and then became a potter!

So before you lock yourself in at an early age, take the time to figure out what you really want to do with your life. Don't just be carried along by the current.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do,

    Jim
