    I'm using an O2 iPhone with an O2 Broadband SIM.

    I've changed my APN to open.internet to suit my plan:
    Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network > Cellular Data > APN = open.internet

    I want to access my Vodafone mail account from this
    Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add Mail Account

    New Account
    Name = ZU X
    Address = ZUX@vodafone.ie
    Password = ****
    Description = Zu account

    Save

    Enter Account Information
    IMAP or POP > POP

    Name = ZU X
    Address = ZUX@vodafone.ie
    Description = Zu account

    Incoming Mail Server = pop.vodafone.ie
    User Name = ZU
    Password = ****

    Outgoing Mail Server = mail.vodafone.ie
    User Name = left blank
    Password = left blank

    It hangs for ages. Then says cannot be connected with SSL, try without. I say yes. Then it just hangs for ages & ages & ages,

    Go through the whole rigmarole again and I say NO so the email account is now saved.

    Trying some other Outgoing Servers
    smtp.o2.ie --stays for ever verifying
    (my broadband network) smtp.digiweb.ie -- same thing

    You can't use the VF SMTP settings on O2 network. You need to put in the SMTP server details for O2 and your broadband service provider. It will then look for the working one when sending.Mine did exactly the same with the SSL settings etc, but it works fine. Put in both sets of server details, then reboot.
