04 Micra Coolant Light

    So,

I have two coolant lights in the Micra.

One blue light which is a warning light & One red coolant light which is "Beware engine about to explode I guess"

I cannot get the blue light to switch off. When the engine is cold it takes a while for the light to go off and all the while the engine is spluttering and the rev counter is rising and falling trying to cope. When I arrive at a junction(when cold) the engine will stall and cut out.

The reservoir is tiny so there are no visible min/max markings on it. I have filled it with coolant and the light will not go off.

I let the cap off the reservoir and the radiator with the engine running to attempt to bleed the system but the problem persists.

    Any help.

They're your temperature guage, not your coolant level i'd say.

Not familiar with this car at all but if there is only 2 wires going on to the sensor in the bottle then it is easy enough to diagnose.

Unplug the plug from the sensor at the bottle, and turn on the igniton. If the light goes out then chances are it is the sensor.

If it doesn't go out cross the 2 terminals in the plug with a bit of wire, if the light goes out then it is your sensor.

If neither of these work then you either have a break in the wire or that bulb is not for the water level!
