Circumcision?

    Hello fellas...
I've just turned 18 and I want/need to be circumcised. This is not something I want to discuss with my parents (:p) so I'm gonna go to the doc by myself and arrange it...

But what's the story with paying for it? Maybe I'm sheltered but I have no idea how it works! My family doesn't have a health card so we have to pay yeah? It's a conversation I'd like to avoid! Is it something to do with health insurance or what?

Jesus, I have no clue. Any insight? :D

Why do you want/need to get circumcised? Are you having problems with your penis because of being uncircumcised or is it purely aesthetics?

Also, see the stickied thread at the top of the forum page...

...because it is too tight. I'm fairly certain like! Yeah, I read that - it's mostly about procedure or healing, I just want to know the whole paying thing? I literally have zilch idea...

Unless there are underlying medical reasons... You'll have to pay for it yourself, and I don't think it's too cheap (tho I'm no urologist, so you'd have to do a bit of research).

Go to your GP, get him to have a look and get his opinion. That's the best advice anyone can give, tbh.

Good luck in whatever happens in the future, though!:)

There are conservative treatments that may be possible for tight foreskin which you should ask your doctor about. Google search before if you want to be prepared.

I'm not offering you medical advice by any means but as a very unhappily circumcised guy I have to point out there are several serious downsides to circumcision. Unless it's absolutely medically necessary my opinion is that you should avoid it at all costs.

Don't feel you have to undertake major, irreversible life altering surgery. There could be alternative treatments (ask your doctor) . Circumcision is a serious, body altering surgery and should not be taken lightly. Do research first.

First of all you will have to see your GP as you cant walk into a hospital and get an operation. So go to your GP and speak to him / her and discuss the problem. Also you should discuss this with your parents its nothing to be embarassed about especially if you are in any kind of pain.

My experience in Ireland is that Doctors here will not recommend this procedure unless you are in pain when you pee / have sex etc etc. Docs here will most likely recommend a steroid cream that you use to break down the skin thus allowaing your little mans head to pop out easier. You can also do stretching exersises.

Im not sure how much it costs but in order to get it done you need to go to your GP first.

I used to have the same problem when I was younger, doctor told me that when I'm in the bath or shower when the skin has softened a bit from to warm water pull back the foreskin and eventually over time it will stretch. Worked a treat for me. It takes a good while to work and can be a bit sore but I think I'd rather that than getting rid of my foreskin altogether. Talk to your doctor and see what they say!

We have a whole huge big sticky devoted to this very topic OP. Some great advice in there. As always for such things, your first port of call is going to be your GP.

    Cheers
