Seizure risk-question

    Hi everyone.
I decided to do a little shopping in ehobbyasia.
After placing the order I received an email:

Thank you for your order. We have received an updated change of the Irish customs regulation since January 1, 2010 that there is a restriction about the import of the Airsoft guns. Because of the customs restriction, we cannot guarantee that the below item can be delivered to you successfully. There is at a risk of seizure case with your package.

    · EA x MAGPUL VLTOR UBR Custom AEG (Olive Drab)

    (SKU: GP-AEG-EH08-OD)
    http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/eac-custom-guns/aeg/ea-x-magpul-vltor-ubr-custom-aeg-olive-drab.html

As your business is important to us, we can do as your request if you insist on that shipment. However, we don't take any responsibility if the package is seized. There would be no reship or refund for the seizure case. We can only refund the net item price if it is returned to us without any damage on the package. Also, as we stated on our website, “a 10% handling fee of the item price would be charged for any returned items.”

Your order is pending to ship until we get your reply. Please confirm us if you are willing to bear the risk of the shipment as soon as possible. For any special request, please kindly mark a note with your special request at the transaction page when settling the payment with PayPal. In that way, we would be notified promptly and make corresponding arrangement.

For any reply, please attach this email for our reference. If you have already placed an order, please kindly provide your ORDER NUMBER at the "subject" with your inquiry for us to follow up. Thank you very much.

P.S. If you agree for bearing the seizure risk with your shipment, please clearly mention “yes, I agree to bear the risk” or similar statement. Otherwise, we are unable to proceed your order.

My question is: is the ban on ?

    thanks

By the way im pretty sure its 330fps with a .25G BB so its over the limit so if customs do test it say gooddbye to your expensive new toy.

Why 0.25?. the manufacturer provides measurement to 0.20g BB
    330 fps = 1.01 J

Its a G&P gearbox 8mm yeah? Go to there website. Every one of them gearbox states
    Muzzle Velocity: 325-335fps (1.2-1.3J)(0.25bb)
They have obviously rounded it off to 330fps.

Maybe im wrong but why would it be different to every other standard 8mm G&P gearbox?

your assuming that the stand alone gear boxs are the same as those in the aeg, g&P also produce 1j gearboxes so it could just be that the 1j are not sold separately

but it would be advisable for the original poster to check this with ehobby and confirm the fps is bellow 1j before shipping or the fps reading they give is with .20g

But its a G&P built gun no? Maybe thats the case. I just thought there gearboxes were built
with a standard spring and then downgraded after if need be.

yes they are g&p, but i;ve also brought g&p aegs using 8mm at under 1j, and i've also seen g&p 8mm on sale separately with 1j springs, the ones on the site appear to be the m120 spring version, g&p are the same as systema and other company's they generally produce a range og gearboxs for different markets unfortunately the 1j market is not the popular one so there no normally stocked as much

it is unclear as to what is used on the site as ehobby asia do not state the weight used, of cause the standard practice is to use .20g so as i said in my post i would strongly advice the originally poster to contact ehobby and check before buying or contact tony over at eirsoft and see if they can get it in for you

    thanks for advice

I ordered my g&p magpull M4 from eirsoft who ordered it from ehobbyasia.
They downgraded it themselves before sending it on..just make sure to ask them to do that maybe..
And far as I could see..all the G&P M4s were all 360fps with the 8mm gearbox.

I was just trying to give advice to tell you to be wary of importing such an expensive gun that may be over the legal limit and be confiscated by customs as the product desciption may not be 100%.

From reading lots of forum reviews about G&P guns before i bought mine i didnt see one person that was saying theres was shooting below 1 Joule that wasnt downgraded by the shop they bought it from. Most said they were 'hot', except on boards bought from a Irish retailer. :)

If the information on the website are not 100% accurate it is their problem. is generally accepted that the fps is measured at 0.20g bb.
I decided to take the risk, the package was sent.
    fingers crossed:D

Aside form being over powered the issue is that the ban is in place but just not being enforced the power of the aeg is irrelivant. If it was shooting @ 310 or 31fps if it looks like a firearm customs are withing their right the seize and destory it.

Ehobby know that the law is in but not being enforced BUT they still have to cover themselves and let you know it MAY be held at customs.

If customs want to they can and you cant do anything about it unfortunatly not because of power but simply because it looks like a firearm.

My last 3 orders sent from Hong Kong have been taxed or stopped by customs. Seems they are getting tighter with stuff coming in from China.

I am prepared to pay the tax, but I can not imagine losing my 'baby'

I used to get some of my guns from abroad but last time I ordered I had hassle with stuff being sent to the Gardai and UPS not delivering my item then sending my threatening letters demanding fees from me.

I ended up paying loads more than expected for the gun
and guess what a few weeks later it appeared on an Irish Retailer site cheaper than what it eventually cost me!

Now quite honestly I could not be arsed buying guns from
abroad when the Irish retailers will get stuff for me.

seems to be anything with a circuit gets stopped, i had radios stopped, last time it was WII controllers.

within the same time I had a GBB MP5, Mac11 and a 203 get through without a second look, not even inspected by customs even with one of CN22 forms saying "Gun Parts" as the description

Not so lucky, the piston broke after 500 bb. In my opinion 11v li-po (recomendet) is too much for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 499 ✭✭Beez

Oh no thats a balls. Ye apparently only very highly modified guns can handle a 11v lipo.

That gun fires fast enough with 8.4v nimh anyway!

    That's a pisser man.:(

Moral of the story is "buy Irish" - at least you would have a proper back-up service which imo, more-than pays for the price difference.
