Can I tax private jeep as commercial?

    Hey there,

I am thinking of buying a Pajero 2.8 Exceed LWB, 7 seats. The jeep is currently NCT'd and therefore private, it's a Jap Import.

Is there anyway to tax is as commercial but keeping all the seats? I heard while back that sometimes that is possible with imports but not sure.

    Anyone knows?

    Cheers,
    Dan

As far as I'm aware all seats (apart from the Driver & Passenger seats) have to be removed and the back windows have to be blacked out...

Do what you want with it just dont be on telly in 6 weeks crying when they are taking your luxury suv away. Then set up a facebook petition saying its another unfair tax on donegal people.

    Pointless:rolleyes:

OP - unless you convert it to a commercial as far as I know you'll have to tax it privately unless you can get it classed as a business related car. I know a mechanic who has an old 405 classed as a commercial.

Might be worth just buying a commercial version

It was possible up to a few years ago, then the rules were changed so not any more.

you must remove all rear seats and weld 'shut' the bolt holes so you cannot put the seats back in.

My dad had a Nissan Patrol years ago that was a UK import, it had rear seats but was set up for DOE & commercial tax. He did not import it & he never got any hassle with it back then. I think it might have been anomaly but it was a while back.

pre july 2003 you could convert nissan patrols and landcruiser amazon's to 'crewcab' commercials because they were long enough behind the 2nd row of seats

On a kinda side note, when going through the tool booth at Watergrasshill, I was asked if it was private or commercial, referring to my Hyuandi Santa Fe. I told him private. Paid €1.90. I asked the guy what's the difference. He said a commercail version was €3.40. So, even though both the private and commercial versions are the exact same thing, toll rates differ

Really? Seems a bit severe. What if you intended reverting it to its original state for resale at some later stage?

no can do, the law is designed to stop people bringing in SUV's from the UK, reg'ing them as commercial for the 50 euro vrt then putting the seats back in for sale as passenger
