    Hey

I'm looking to pick up a ps3 slim, (undecided about hard drive size)
Any indication of the best deal available on ps3's would be great.

    I'm based in Dublin.

Shoutman, there's a new 'version' of the PS3 slim on the horizon. Is a hardware revision more than a new model. The serial number will be CECH-2100xx as opposed to the current slims (CECH-2000xx).

    http://www.wastedgamer.com/lighter-ps3-slim-cech-2100a-revealed/

Have been asking in Game and Gamestop stores around Cork a lot over the past few weeks and most places don't seem to know about it. There does seem to be a shortage of PS3 slims everywhere so maybe that's an indication that they're waiting for shelves to empty before they re-stock with the 2100 models?

Don't think it's something Sony will make a big deal of and there won't be a major announcenment or anything as it's not a 'new' slim model so is just a matter of checking in the shops to see if they have the CECH-2100xx slims!

Looking to pick up a PS3 in the next few days and wondering this aswell.
Have had a look in Smyths/GAME/HMV/Harvey Norman but nothing's really stood out at me as a great deal as of yet...

The PS3 slim is €300 everywhere isn't it?

Like someone said, a lot of the places seem to have similar combo deals, I don't think there's one that's really jawdroppingly good taht stands out.

I was in Newry at the weekend and didn't think of it. I did get loads of Red Stripe and Pepperami though :D

@ Butch Cassidy, yeah basically everywhere I've seen seems to have the same price, I'll probably end up going for wherever includes the best game with it.

Said it in another thread, but thought I'd repeat it for you here. ;)
Feck all 120gb PS3's in south Dublin at the moment, but you'd be talking about €350 for a 250gb. The extra €50 is worth it for double the memory, though it really would take a lot to fill up 120gb, let alone 250gb (if you're only saving games, that is!).

Yeah I'd probably be looking for a 120GB one myself, don't think I'd ever use up the 250GB.

Aren't ye guys gonna wait for the model with the revised hardware to come out- the CECH 210x? Is already out in the UK so can't be long before it gets here. Have a suspicion this might be why there are so many shortages - imo Sony are waiting for store shelves to empty before they re-stock with the revised model.

Probably not to be honest. There isn't a huge difference between the two and I'll only be using it for casual gaming anyway.

Yeah, very little difference to be fair. Not sure why I'm waiting tbh -think I might just bite the bullet at this stage!

If you are patient enough and can wait, I would. My brother had the 120gb slim. The blu ray died. He brought it back to Game and was told that they are no longer stocking the older models as they are apparently faulty. He said the new models would be in around the end of the month.

Needless to say my brother wasn't very happy with this. He managed to get a 2nd hand one which he was told he could exchange for the new model when it arrived! Food for thought!

Any way to check what deals GAME have in Newry before going up? And is it really worth it seeing as you're only saving about 5 Euro than if you got one down here. You'd spend more than that on petrol!

You say that till you face it, Then you have to erase something against your will

I never even got close to filling my 60gb. I guess I could if I put all my music and video on my PS3, but I just never bothered, I only copied over movies I was going to watch that night and then I'd delete it afterwards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭WarZoneBrother

LOL I filled up like 250gb's or more on my old 320gb ps3 (originally 60gb launch) Then again I did download EVERYTHING that was free lol and a few movies..

Constantly deleting crap from my old 40GB PS3. I had about 100+ songs, around 200 photos, a couple of movies and a load of Youtube clips downloaded. GT Prologue.

120GB is what I'm looking for now.

Will be going on holidays soon so plan on looking for a PS3 in Duty Free in the UK. Still remember picking up a N64 + Goldeneye for £70 many years ago, at the time they were selling for around £100-120 if memory serves me correctly.

Why buy a new PS3, just get a bigger HDD.

Unrepairable according to the folks at Computer Repairs in Tallaght.

Heading back up to Bray to see Console Repairs sometime next week.

You didn't say it was broken.

I've to pick up my PS3 from the same place on monday. Haven't been in touch with them due to work so don't know if it's fixed or not.

Sorry. Said it in another thread yesterday though.

What is your PS3 in for?

Mine has YLOD, didn't know YLOD was unrepairable :(

YLOD...:(. It can be repaired, just don't expect it to last long. You were probably unfortunate.

I was just hoping to get it fixed and have the 3 month guarantee so within that time I could save up a bit and trade it in(or stick it up on Adverts + a few unwanted games) for a 120GB Slim.

It's just across the room here, looking at me.. practically taunting me :pac:

Had my father pick it up on Friday as I was up in NI. Would have asked them exactly why it was was unrepairable. I always thought it was a guaranteed temporary fix :(

Gamestop in Douglas have the new CECH-2103 PS3 slims (CECH-2103A, the 120gb version was the one I saw) they were only offering €110 trade-in for my 60-gig towards it, though.
Game in Patrick St offered me €175 store credit but they're not getting a delivery till later this week.

    Hi stoofer,

Just wanted to say thanks for the heads-up on this. Picked up the 2103A in Douglas today after constantly hassling them for the past month! Helpful crowd in there in fairness.

Have been searching all over Cork without any luck and rang practically every Game in Dublin as well.

I rang one store in Cork and they told me they coudn't give model numbers out over the phone

Looking forward now to trying it out this evening!

I too am in the market for a slim PS3 120gb after a 7 year gap from gaming. Last game I bought was gta vice city in 2003.
Was wondering would this new version CECH-2100xx be in Game in Newry or would I need to hang on for a while? Is the code written on the box or what?
Also someone in Harvey Norman's told me that they're bringing out a new 3D version of their blu-ray player soon.
    Any truth to this?

Yep, is displayed clearly on a couple of locations on the box.

Are the PS3 Slims in the Uncharted 2 pack the newer 210x model? Seems like GAME just changed to this pack in their bundles last Friday, so was hoping these are the newer type (looking for a 250GB).

You should ring them and find out. Possibly more than the YLOD? I've repaired a few mates consoles and have yet to fail a repair on YLOD alone, then again I've only done about 10-12 consoles.

Everything is repairable. I wouldn't accept that answer. Maybe it's a write off PS3. Any problems with Blu Ray or the HDD?

Also beware of shops telling you to dump it etc. I've heard of a few chop shops lol. Lasers gone and all that. Just be careful.

Just found out that the Uncharted 2 pack release pre-dates the 210xx model. I still can't seem to be able to locate one of these newer 250GB Slim models in any Dublin stores. Anyone know of anywhere in Dublin stocking these new machines?

    Thanks!

Went into Smyths Toystore and Gamestop today and they're both still selling the CECH 20xx models.
    That was in Drogheda.
No sign of the newer ones yet.

same as that. In Smyths in Galway last week and they didn't know the Cech 21XX version was available.

does anyone know the pricing for the 120/250gb models in the various shops?

About €300 for the 120GB and €350 for the 250GB.
Shop around as some places may offer a better bundle than others.

For example, Smyths only have the console for €350 whereas xtravision offer the console and a game for the same price.
