Are people reading the posts on the Air Users Blog?

Apparently someone has developed & released onto the torrent sites a version of Pro Tools with unlimited track counts that you can use with any audio interface. Seemingly this works by fooling Pro Tools into believing when its launched that it has seen the relevant Avid/Digi hardware.

    www.airusersblog.com

This kind of dispels Avid's/Digi's long held stance that lots of expensive cards are required for high track counts in its software.

Apparently Avid are doing all they can to keep a lid on this, but I can't help but feel that they have lost their way of late & that they seriously need to raise their game to carry on competing with the likes of Logic, Reaper, Ableton etc.

What do you think? A flash in the pan or the beginning of the end?

Honestly, I think it won't change their marketing methods, but it WILL (even in a very dubious way) allow a LOT of new to try PT.

    For better or worse.

For the record, I just had a quick gander an apparently it added a bunch of latency into the systems.

    Proof of concept? Yes
    Unusable? Yes

Protools real strength isn't necessarily it's hardware or software - it's it's market penetration.

The problem with getting 'Pros' to change from that platform is it's 'Ain't broke don't fix' scenario for those users.

You can walk into virtually any studio in the world with your drive and continue your session with Pro-Tools.

However I do think that there's an inevitability that with computing power increasing like it is, Native will rule one day.

be cool if logic, now that the pthd coding is known and out there on the web looked at the strong point of pt and where logic falls down(not that logic is not better than pt in some ways)Then had a big update which was logic hd a native logic system that includes the benifits of pt with an option that reduces pressure on the host machine but could still be run on the host without the bells and fancy bits t make it more tempting the could offer plugins that model old gear and a trade in type of thing which means reduced cost for switching over to it.

thus the crazy latency I guess...

The thing I read says massive MIDI latency?!? (And audio latency of course.)

That being said, it would be nice if they finally gave up the LE nonsense and let people learn the system, but with a decent audio interface.

I am told it doesn't do TDM plug-ins.

Digidesign dont really bother with the toy users such as Mpowered and LE ****e....

They only interested in the money guys using HD2 and HD3, thats the way it is in real terms :)

try phoning them and saying you have LE and see if they laugh or hang up :D
