You probably need to have the car hooked up to a diagnostic computer to identify the fault code. Oxygen sensors are weak points in VAG cars but it needs to be diagnosted properly rather than guess work which is all that you seem to have got from the mechanics upto now.

or have a look at some of the volkswagen/audi forums. There's a load of guys on them with a cable and program called VCDS that are always happy to help. Cheaper than €90 odd euro per hour at the dealers! Audi-Sport.net is the one that I frequent.

Sounds like EGS valve is stuck.

cheers for replies, would EGS valve have some connection with the turbo so it would? by the sounds of it a turbo doesnt come too cheaply either.

Could be anything....what's happening is that the engine is going into "limp mode" to protect itself. I had it happen to a Golf TDI and it was just a vacuum line that was leaking. Best get it checked though!

As already said you really need somebody with a computer (VAGCOM) to read it for you.It could be anything. Mass airflow sensor comes to mind which are common failures on VAG models.

was talkin to lad who i bought car off of up north, he says that it is the wastegate valve that needs to be taken out and cleaned cos they need to test the vacuum on the wastegate valve, he reckons most of dealers wont bother doing that but wil automatically say to get new turbo? anybody ever have to get this done before?or know anybody in limk area who might do it? cheers

Quick search pops up with http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=43356

Might not be the problem but worth a try maybe?

I think Graces Garage on the Old Cork Road have VW diagnostic equipement. They are just before Georgian Village on the left hand side. Might be worth giving them a call. Tel: 061 412993.
