Improving AdSense performance

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if people had experiences or tips to share with regard to improving AdSense for content performance – i.e. increasing clicks, revenue?
I’m aware that performance is dependent on multiple factors – not least of all good old fashioned traffic – but I’d be interested to hear your stories/experiences on this – what worked for you, what didn’t, and any interesting findings you picked up along the way in relation to performance?

In somewhat related news, Google have decided to reveal the highly-secretive breakdown of the revenue share from an AdSense click on AFS and AFC – never though I’d see the day!!

    Hi!

I have several sites , I think all have adsense, but I focus on only a small amount at a time.

So far, I find simple themes with just 1 or 2 adsense blocks perform well. I am getting a 17% average CTR on one site (sometimes up to 40%), it is very simple layout, with some navigation on the right column, and articles on the left. I have a large rectangle just after the article title so basically it's right in the face of the visitor. That works well

Having said that, I use the same theme on 2 other sites , and the CTR on one is about .05% and the other about 0.5%. Those sites are less informative and I think due to the nature of the content, those visitors are more unlikely to click - I need to look into other revenue streams there or just sell the sites.

The Xfactor theme is well known for high CTR , as is the clickbump theme. They cost money , of course there are other ways to acquire them. Anyway you can make a simple theme easily with something like Artisteer...
The name of the theme I use is Adflex , it is similar to the above, but free, and very customizable.

I play around with colour a bit - nothing crazy - but that generally seems to have no effect. I use matching border & backround(white in my case) and text colours to match the site (blacks and greys).

    What are your experiences?

My problem is choosing good keywords. Initially I wasnt using Market Samuri or similar software, just doing some rough guessing and using adwords keyword tool & yahoo site explorer, now I have about 15 domains that I will probably never get ranking. Recently with better choices, things are looking up! (Thank god)

My aim is to 10x my current adsense income.

Im really surprised more don't venture into this - especially in a recession where people may be let go from their job, instead of dropping in CVS , they would prob make more money if they went into IM
