Age Action, the national charity for older people, is appealing to all knitters to help with the "Big Knit" fund raiser, which is being run in conjunction with innocent, the smoothie firm.

We are trying to have 80,000 bottle top woolen hats knitted by early September. The bottles will go on sale in September and October. Age Action will receive 25 cent for every bottle sold. The charity will use the money to fund its public information "stay well, warm and healthy" campaign. Sadly, there are up to 2,000 additional deaths each winter in Ireland as a result of cold-related illness. Age Action provides public information and advice to older people and their families to get vulnerable, older people through the winter.

Can you organise a knitting group or pass this message on to friends who knit? For patterns and more information check out www.innocentdrinks.ie/thebigknit

    Thanks.

    Hi everyone,
As many knittters may know Age Action, the national charity for older people, Age Action, is appealing to all knitters to help with its "Big Knit" fund raiser, which is being run in conjunction with innocent, the smoothie firm.

We are trying to have 80,000 bottle top woolen hats knitted. The original deadline was September, but has now been pushed back to November 10. The bottles will go on sale in December and Age Action will receive 25 cent for every bottle sold.

The response to date has been great, with over 10,000 hats already in. However, the downside of the good summer was that it was not great knitting weather! We are told by knitters that, by pushing back the deadline, we will benefit from people who return to their needles once the Autumn nights close in.

The charity will use the money to fund its public information "stay well, warm and healthy" campaign. Age Action provides public information and advice to older people and their families to get vulnerable, older people through the winter.

Can you organise a knitting group or pass this message on to friends who knit? For patterns and more information check out www.innocentdrinks.ie/thebigknit

    THANKS!!!

Thanks for that. Will chase it up. Knitting 80,000 hats is a huge challenge, and knitting groups around the country have responded wonderfully.
