    Hi,

Getting Sky HD installed on Thursday and have a couple of quick questions -

    1. Does the box come with a HDMI cable?
    2. Is there a particular model to avoid / ask for when the installer arrives (presuming he has more than one in the car) or are they all as reliable / unreliable as each other?

    Cheers

    R

    To answer your question's

    1. Yes they come with both HDMI and Scart cables

    2. Not really sure on which to avoid as there has been a few mentioned on here about that. Generally the engineer will have more then 1 box depending on how many jobs he has. The supplier will generally give him mostly the same brand boxes..then again I could be wrong:D

As far as I know, now they only give you the HDMI cable, Scart cable isn't available in the box but the installer has it if required.

I have been told that at the moment there is only 1 box the installers are using that is the Amstrad DRX-890 HD. I heard that Sky bought Amstrad so the box is basically made by sky. It is also the newer slim receiver and the latest models are quiet and the epg is quick enough although they do have a problem with RF out if you want to use Sky Magic Eye. It also has a 500GB HD of which 250 is personal storage and 250GB is anytime.

Around March of this year the most common box was the samsung and that too seems good so any box should be fine as most of the boxes which had problems are no longer supplied.

That said I am 100% certain that you will get an amstrad unless you ask for some other make. But I am also 70% certain that you will still get an amstrad even after asking for another make :D If you take up the HD pack then they might give you a samsung or another brand at the time of install.

Thanks for the replies lads. Now I need to figure out where I can get my hands on a DVD recorder so I can play out all the stuff from the old box (I'm upgrading). Or will I still be able to watch stuff from the old box if I just put the viewing card back into it?

Once your card has been paired to the new box, it will no longer be able to be used to view your old recordings which is a shame.

The new Amstrad Sky Hd boxes, no longer come with a Scart cable or any VCR male to female lead, one of the few ways they have cut costs, some installers will supply a free Scart but some will charge you for them as they have to supply the scart themselves as we are no longer supplied with them
