i received a letter in the post last week from my ex employer they are
being sued by another ex employee over an incident that happened between us
3yrs ago, that i was wrongly accused of,
they want me to pay for any costs incurred, i am a lone parent and live on 190euro per week, my ex employer promoted me after the incident, i remained with the company a number of years afterwards and left of my own accord,
can they sue me and what should i do.

I have no legal training whatsoever, but that sounds like a fishing expedition on their side. Contact a solicitor, pass the letter to him/her, and if contacted again just repeat "You should talk to my solicitor about that".

As Thoie says, hand the letter to your own solicitor and don't respond to anything further from them. Sounds like a fishing operation, they're chancing their arm. If they're being sued, they can pay for their own costs.

I absolutely agree that you should hand this letter over to a solicitor, but if you want to talk about it with someone first, why don't you head into your local FLAC clinic? They are all professional practitioners, and they will send you to a private solicitor too (FLAC policy), but they will be able to give you a better "steer" on where you stand before you do that. Have a look at their website for clinic times and locations. Best of luck!
