I had a 'tip' yesterday. Looking for advice

Hi, I had a small tip in the car yesterday. I was coming up to a roundabout and was moving slowly. I thought the car in front had gone and I was looking at the cars coming from the right. I stupidly took my eye off the road in front and ended up rear ending the car in front. A small thud. Nothing major. There was no damage on either car.

The woman driving called 999 and the Garda came out. Swapped details, etc.. He wrote down "no damage". I apologised to the woman and her husband. I rang her last night and she said they were all fine. She said she was going to her garage this morning to get the car assessed. Even though I couldn't see any damage to the back bumper, neither could the husband or the Garda, do you think the garage will see an opportunity to make a bit of a profit? What normally happens in these situations? Also, should I ring my car insurance company to let them know what happened? What will happen if I do? Any advice appreciated. Thanks

:confused:as far as im aware for an insurance claim it has to be accompained by a garda report and if the garda has signed something stating no damage id presume this would make the claim invalid

Damage can be done that is not visible from the outside.

    was anybody breathalyzed ?

she's probably just being over reactive cow about it... if theres no damage to the back bumper then i doubt theres even anything in front that could have being hit.

actually she's just going to be left with a bill for unnecessary checks for her car which she will have to pay.

True. Inform your ins co, OP, you're obliged to in the t&cs of your policy.

I've seen a Focus written off and the only visible damage was a 3 inch mark on the back bumper.

And she's every right to get her car checked. I would to be safe.

OP - if it was small you'll probably be ok. But just be prepared for something. Annoying situation tbh
