Looking at purchasing a 08 audi A3 with 60k miles uk, timing belt is going to be done by seller. But got a mechanic to check it out and there was 1 outstanding issue with flywheel, he thinks its in the early stage of going. He says that currently it doesn't need to be replaced and audi wouldn't replace it at this early stage, may last 3 months 5k or 1-2 years 20-30k With the seller (garage) what can I use to look for some reassurance, extended warranty (currently 3months), discount from asking price or negotiate a price to replace if the flywheel goes in the next year at a discount and add to the car invoice.

    Tks,
    Noclee.

If it's diesel(and I presume it is as petrols never give flywheel trouble and you'd want to be made bringing in a petrol car from the UK), then run away, very fast.

Dual Mass Flywheels(which are fitted to just about every modern diesel with a manual gearbox) are very expensive things to replace, upwards of a grand.

The clutch must also be changed as well when they go(it hardly makes sense to go to all that effort of changing the flywheel and not do the clutch while you're at it seeing as the added cost is very little).
