Why I'm glad that Boards and reality are seperate

Folks whilst Boards is a great place to while away the hours, ther is one huge reason that I am glad that reality is seperate and never the twain should meet :

Arguments would become infinite. In the real world, when someone gets the better of you in a debte you concede defeat and move on. On Boards though it's a different world. Here, where someone gets the better of you you Google and Google and Google some more until you find that one piece of little known writing which supports your view.

It doesn't really matter that it was posted on a Nepalese clog lovers site by a one armed eunoch with a phd in gigantism, bought from ebay. The fact is that it allows you to not have to concede a point.

Have you ever known that you were beaten but continued anyway and then delighted yourself by finding such inane shite, or is there some other reason you are happy that Boards and reality are distinct?

In real life you would just talk over their response

In boards you actually have to read it

    Boards 1 Reality 0

Like most people here, I've been owned or have just been the victim of great comebacks plenty of times but it doesn't bother me. I think I'm able to appreciate a superior argument, mind or witticism.

And I don't think it's that different to RL expect that there is an indelible record of your shame cached for ever. :)

People who thrieve on infinite arguments are called trolls, they love the attention, which they crave from any source possible. On saying that, you shouldn't encourage them either.

What's great is when you have a sene of why the OP would post this.

Aren't you the guy who labelled Noam Chomsky a Pol Pot supporter with shoddy evidence to back up your claim :D

You said that you thought Chomsky didn't have enough evidence at the time to know for certain the truth yet you still went ahead and labelled him as a Pol Pot supporter :pac:

OP, I guess you've been on the bad side of an argument more than once then ;)

I'm really non-confrontational so I can't stand arguing. If I'm gonna post something that I know people will disagree with, I usually write one huge post, say everything I think in one go and leave the thread never to be seen again!

I wish reality was like that. I'd love to just be able to go on a huge rant, without the other person interrupting me and then be able to storm out of the room and not listen to their response!

I'd be more likely to concede a point on boards.ie than I would in real life. People tell me I am very argumentative. I tell them they are wrong.

    Wrong!
Yes I did read it to prove the point that I could still talk over it :o

Well if we had access to the internet in the real world, we wouldn't have to concede defeat. The only reason people don't concede defeat on here so willingly is because they have a huge database to look through, to support their opinon. Where as when you're out in the real world and debating with a friend or something. You can't exactly ask them to hold on a sec while you check wikipedia, you either win or you lose. Also when on boards, you don't have to reply right away. You could wait ten minutes to reply and by then you'll have worked out your reply to someone's post. When you're talking out in the real world, you have that pressure where you have to reply right away or shut up because you look like a fool. Nonetheless, boards, ain't so different to reality. it's just easier to get away with stuff on here.

But on topic, I actually kind've base boards.ie on reality. If I ever see someone on the TV, my first instinct is to wonder what people of boards.ie think of him/her so that I can judge him/her myself, I use boards, as a measuring stick to reality.
