If it's free then what do you need a grant for?

Or are you going back full time?

You should be eligible for a grant, however, I think lone parents can be/are still assessed on their parents income - (up to age 23)!!

Check out the following information given on the Citizens Information site - you should find all the information you need there - if not they will point you in the right direction. Good luck with the course. http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/education/third-level-education/fees-and-supports-for-third-level-education/maintenance_grant_schemes_for_students_on_third_level_courses

Don't give up without a fight...still worth having a chat with Citizens Information, and the college you hope to go to. They will have dealt with similar situations...and should be able to offer some useful advice. Cheers

You could look into the possibility of doing the course there as a dispersed VTOS student. VTOS would give you access to a childcare allowance of €10 per child, per full day of attendance and €5 per half day. Better than nothing. Maybe speak to Siobhan White in the Adult Guidance service, tel: 061310880

EDIT: to be VTOS eligible you need to be aged 21 before the course starts.
