Confused when it comes to sunglasses!

    Hi,
I've been looking around chain reaction cycles for sunglasses but they have so many different pairs.

Can anyone advise - I'll be mainly using them for driving and I don't want them to fog up on cold mornings. That was very annoying with the last BBB set I had.

    Any info appreciated - thanks.

I bought a pair of Oakley half Jacket about 4 years ago, been through umpteen pairs of glasses and finally decided to buy a good pair, they have probably saved me a fortune as I know what they cost I tend to take better care of them. If you do tend to crack a lens or anything new lenses can be purchased for reasonable price. Best to get a good case tho and that won't happen, I use mine for cycling and driving. No complaints

Without recommending any particular brand or model, if you want glasses that don't fog up try to find a pair that have vented lenses. I've a pair of glasses I use only for cycling with them and while they were an expensive buy I'd get them again because they work so well

Hi all - I'm a cyclig newby and am really enjoying it but for one thing.

I wear contacts and sunglasses when out on the bike but during/at the end of a ride my eyes are stinging; I can't keep the sweat out of them.

Are there sunglasses anyone could recommend? Waterproof/sealed or vented??

Has anyone else had this problem? Advice appreciated.

Why not get prescription sunglasses? I was in Specsavers the other day and was given the grand tour and was relatively impressed, especially with the 'Reactions' lenses.

Pity that their range of 'sporty' glasses extends to about 6 pairs :(

Anyone know of a company (B&M or online) who'd take your prescription and
fit them to a pair of Oakleys?

You can actually get prescription Oakleys without going to another company to get lenses fitted

Just go into an Oakley dealers and enquire - they'll need to be ordered in for you but shouldn't be a hassle to get hold of

Folks, so has anyone further advice on sunglasses keeping sweat out of your eyes?

Should you go waterproof and keep sweat out altogether or vented and hope a breeze will keep your eyes dry???

As I said above - really enjoying getting into cycling but this is a real nuisance.......help??

I think something on your head is going to be more effective at keeping sweat form running down your forehead and into your eyes than sunglasses will be. The front padding/sweat-pad on my helmet works well at retaining most of the sweat from my head but a cap or a headband (must be a stripey coloured one, in the "stylish" John McEnroe vain) should work well too.

I've seen cycling sunglasses in the past with foam pads on the inner face of the upper frame but I haven't seen them in years now. Vented lenses are intended to help keep the inner face of the lenses from misting up, incidentally, I don't think they'll help against dripping sweat. Also, vented lenses don't work for everyone, they certainly don't work for me in Oakley M-Frames.

When I bought my Oakleys last year the cheapest price was direct off the UK Oakley site, with almost limitless colour combinations and free custom engraving (I think).

the fit should be form fit to your face and wrap-around, secondly this is why we use cycling gloves, wipe brow every so often, eventually I got to the zen master stage of detecting when a 'bead' would run off forehead and wipe it just before it droped onto the front of glasses

it takes years to get to this level :p

    Vision Express in Blanch.

I actually had to thank them, they spotted unusual colouring at the back of my eye which was referred to an eye specialist. Turned out to be nothing to worry about for the time being but will be monitored in every eye test from now on.

Do you mind me asking how much they cost?

    Sorry for the delay,

I think it came to €420 or €430.

That included the eye test, Oakley Straight Jacket frames, presecription & polarised lenses with scratch resistant coating.

Also took out the insurance and poked every sort of question about the insurance - was happy that I'd be looked after with the scenarios that I put to the sales assistant.

If you don't claim on the insurance after something like 2 years, they give you back the premium you paid.. so can't be all that bad.
