So, this is the Lady GaGa episode.

Here's hoping for some plot development!! :)

"Theatricality," the title of this episode, could be the title of every episode. But in this one, the glee kids pay tribute to Lady Gaga and KISS, performers who are more theatrical than, say, Bob Dylan. Those of you who saw the recent Madonna homage know the drill: Will tells the kids to "express themselves" and they take it from there. (Kurt and the girls do Gaga's "Bad Romance"; the other boys kiss up to KISS.) Meanwhile, there's a big story-line development: Rachel confronts Shelby (Idina Menzel) about that motherhood thing.

So Rachel comes face to face with mummy dearest so will it be a poker face reunion :D

FFS TV3 just spoilt it for me - I didn't want to know that Rachel confronts her mother. Their ad is quite cool, but thats a major event in the episode and now I know whats happening :( this must be the episode that
Rachel and Shelby do Pokerface, so it comes after Rachel confronts her

both covers of gaga's were pretty crap, and in fairness if you have finally met your mother after 16-ish years, and you get to sing 1, only 1, song why the hell would you sing pokerface???

Anyway, kurts dad was quite good in this episode, but figgins stole the show

    ps where was sue?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,894 ✭✭✭Chinafoot

Wasn't mad about Bad Romance, but I thought Pokerface was excellent. As for why they would sing Pokerface...her assignment was GaGa so she had GaGa sheet music. It'd be far more unrealistic if they just happened to have some absolute stormer of a ballad perfectly prepared.

I enjoyed the episode but kind of feel like not much happened, even with the Rachel/Shelby storyline. Again very little focus on Regionals, surely they'd be preparing set songs and rehearsing repeatedly instead of faffing around learning life's valuable lessons.

I thought Kurt and his Dad were fantastic, great to see Finn getting a well-deserved kick in the hole.

I'm the opposite to you guys, I liked bad romance, but found pokerface pretty boring.

    The figgins story was hilarious.
I also couldn't stop laughing at Finn in the red rubber dress, reminded me of some sort of weird super hero.

Overall I thought it was a really good episode, I think it's getting back on track.

    I thought that was puh-puh-puh-poor.

Lady Gaga's songs were terrible, and it just seemed like one long ad for her. Some really stupid crap in it too, why would Kurt think someone would sleep in that room and Figgins and the vampire crap.I wish this show would go back to pre-break quality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,397 ✭✭✭✭FreudianSlippers

"You look terrible... I look awesome." (and she did)

Thought it was a pretty ok episode. Nothing special. One quip though: during "Bad Romance" did they forget Quinn is supposed to be pregnant? I mean she was looking good but her baby-bump changes more than anything.

Never seen anything as bad as the kiss thing though :(

Edit: PS: Rachel looked hot in her 2nd Gaga outfit!

Kurt's Dad is amazing, his rant made the episode for me!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,295 ✭✭✭✭Basq

The speech by Kurt's Dad was probably the highlight. But although it was very accurate and true, it did feel slightly trite.

The episode as a whole was pretty damn poor.. but then again, I do think it's been pretty damn poor since it came back from break.

The episode wasn't "The Power of Madonna" poor.. but it wasn't far off!

I feel each week Glee is choosing some of my favourite songs and artists just for me :D

Love Gaga and love Kiss, enjoyed the Kiss songs more in this episode though.

Really enjoyed how Kurt's dad totally stood up for him against Finn, kudos to him :)

I still don't really get what Jessie was meant to add to the series. Is he gone for good now?

I didn't really like the episode - bar Kurts dad outburst and Finn in red pvc and eye glitter. Also didn't like a lot of the song arrangements.

Am starting to dislike Kurt and he used to be one of my fav's! His character has changed totally from completely camp to nasty.

Where was Jesse tonight? I thought Rachel's mama would have told Rachel the truth about him.

Finn dressed in a red condom LOL :D

I loved Puck singing Beth and also enjoyed Bad Romance

No, this episode was original meant to air next week but was switched due to the American Idol finale. His absence is explained in next weeks episode (originally meant for this week).

It's also why Mr. Schu says "Next stop, Regional's!" at the end.

There was no Sue Sylvester in it this week. I am most disappointed.

Worst episode of the season for me. I can totally understand Kurts dad speech to Finn but Finn wasnt totally in the wrong. Kurt was been stalkerish in his persuit of Finn. He even set up his father and Finns mother so that they might get together.

I thin Finn's reaction to having to share a room with a guy that was besotted with him was normal enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,711 ✭✭✭Hrududu

Hang on, so Kurt basically manipulates his father, Finn and Finn's mother's entire lives so that he can get what he wants. He is almost Glenn Close levels of creepy stalker. Are we supposed to like him and be on his side?

The whole thing with Rachel's mother was done and dusted pretty quickly. They could have done that over a few episodes.

I'm not a fan of Kiss or Lady Gaga so I don't think this episode was really for me.

The whole Rachel's mother thing was added in because fans thought the actresses looked alike. It was more of a nod towards the fans than a real story episode.
I'm sure they may make reference to it in the future and it may lead to more storylines, but remember that it was never part of the original show storyline.

Probably my least favourite episode so far. I thought the Pokerface arrangement was awful and Bad Romance wasn't much better. Ther boys doing Kiss was just cringeworthy. I missed Sue sooo much :(

Jon Groff was photographed with Lea during the shooting of 'Theatricality', and he was wearing the VA red Lady Gaga costume.

    random observations on this episode....

    1. Tina is a hot vampire

    2. Great casting for Rachel's mother - How alike do they look?

    3. Mr. Schu, for a Spanish teacher, hasn't got very good Spanish. At one stage he tells the group, 'siéntate', in an attempt to tell them to sit down. This does mean 'sit down' but only if you're talking to one person. he should have said 'Siéntense!' to the whole group. (like Glen Hansard in the Oscars a few years back when he said 'go raibh maith agat', which would have been fine if he was only thanking one person).

    4. I actually liked Pokerface... bizarrely, I usually hate anything Rachel sings, she always looks like she's on the verge of tears, but this wasn't bad.

    5. Jesse was hardly in the episode, and wasn't missed at all. What is the point of his bland, bleh character?

    6. Best line to ... Britt of course... "You look terrible,....I look awesome."

    7. Will someone please get kurt a boyfriend. All this whining and mooning over the straight boy, it´s getting a bit old

Before I say why it was an awful episode, I'll point a few positive things...

-Thought Tina tricking Figgins with the Vampire Act was brilliant. Also the bit with the Twilight fans at the beginning had me laughing.
-The scene where Kurt's dad kicks Finn out was a fantastic dramatic scene (albeit felt a bit too serious for a show like this, but great all the same)
-I liked the bit at the end where Finn defended Kurt and then everyone turned up to defend them all, which is the first time we've seen the entire Glee club stand together as friends.
-Thought the songs the lads sang were excellent and thought Bad Romance was pretty good.
-Quinn looked really hot in her Gaga outfit.

And now the reasons why it was the worst episode of the series...

-No Sue Sylvester... Dunno what they were thinking as Jane Lynch makes the show what it is - even a single line at some point would have done the trick...
-The Poker Face duet was probably the worst song of the entire series... Thought they managed to butcher a song which was only tolerable to begin with...
-The storyline of Rachel and her mom was stupid... They should have dragged it out much longer - would've been great if Rachel only found out at Regionals, and the storyline was quickly swept under the rug as Shelby wants nothing to do with her, so ultimately it was a redundant storyline...
-They had a great opportunity in this episode to give Mike and Matt more lines and yet again they ruined it... I loved when they started making Santana and Brittney more central and don't see why they won't do the same with the two lads...

I quite liked the Pokerface cover but other than that this wasn't a great episode. Firstly, it isn't Glee without Sue. She should be in EVERY episode.

Also, I really don't like Kurt; ok, so Finn shouldn't have used the word "faggy" but other than that his reaction was perfectly reasonable. Like others have pointed out, Kurt is like a creepy obsessive stalker, and that coupled with the fact that he is ridiculously OTT in campness, leave me to have no sympathy for him.

    Kurt's Dad is awesome though!

I thought Pokerface was an amazing arrangement, sung by two extraordinary singers. I loved the theatricality of Bad Romance, and how fantastic did Quinn (not looking pregnant at all) and Santana look? I felt sorry that Mike and Matt finally got to speak but (me anyway) couldn't tell which was which underneath the make up! Tina made me laugh for possibly the first time in both her scenes with Figgins. Sue was missed.

And yes, Kurt is being a psycho stalker, but I think the point to the story was around Finn saying 'faggy'. If Mercedes had pursued Puck, and he called her a n1gger at some point, how would we have expected the characters to react? Or calling Becky a retard, as Burt (Burt and Kurt - I never copped it before:)) pointed out. But I really wish that Kurt didn't have to be a girl all the time! Glee does shove that camp stereotype down people's throats, but
I believe they will address that in the next season with a new character.

Wasn't an overly bad episode. I absolutely cringed when Shu and the Glee team look for a new look for Tina and then approaching Figgins pretending to be a vampire was just embarrassing.

But I thought the Fin and Kurt arc was good, as well as Britney's line.

The whole part with Finn and Kurt is a normal reaction

He didn't know he was moving house it all happened so fast,

Add onto that he had no say in what the room looked like another shock,

He knew/knows that Kurt has a crush on him but never said anything as he probably saw it as harmless.

But i think the room is the straw that broke the camels back.

Both Parties are right but i think Kurt's dad was over the top in his reaction

You have a straight guy who's coming to terms with moving into a new home, Everything in his life is changing and he's just meant to go with it with no say.

    Yeah i don't buy that,

No parent in there right mind would announce something the way his mother did. Ok have a surprise for you.

Our house has been sold we've moved house all in the space of 5 days.

    Find it unbelievable

Shout it out loud was good like how they went with a "lesser" known KISS song and Beth was a nice touch too.

Again the duet with Rachel and her mum seemed like a missed opportunity why poker face. If they had of got a song that was actually a duet would've been perfect. They can both sing but the song didn't lend itself to a duet.

Any who enough rambling from me

The whole 'jock kids hate Glee' is ridiculous at this stage. 5 of the guys, Finn, Puck, Mike, Matt and Kurt, are on the football team, Finn is even the captain. 2 of the girls, Brittany and Santana, and 1 guy, Kurt, are on the cheerleading squad, Quinn and Mercedes also used to be. They would be considered the coolest Glee club in any high school in the country.

Also are we expected to believe that Kurt's dad's house which is twice the size of Finn's mother's and has two and a half bathrooms, only has 1 bedroom and both boys need to sleep in the basement? Seriously? It's understandable that Kurt preferred to have the whole basement to himself as it would be bigger than a bedroom, but there would still be at least one other room upstairs for Finn to use.

^ I think Kurt probably suggested to his dad that he share with Finn

No, his dad said they would build an extension (addition) so Finn could have a room.
