Just wondering if anyone knows about the whole process of switching to IADT after the core year in NCAD and you could tell me about it?? I know it can definitely be done, but thats all I really know..

I think go talk to the head of NCAD or of 1st year and they should be able to get the ball rolling for you? your leaving applying a tad late thou, but best of luck!

When your done in 1st yr core you apply directly to the college for 2nd yr.

    Applying directly to IADT

Limited places may be available each year which allow for advanced entry or transfer to our programmes, e.g. direct entry to 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of a programme. Such places are typically taken by students who have completed relevant studies in other higher education institutions or at IADT. Availability of places differs from year to year - in many cases no places become available.
To be considered for such places you must apply directly to IADT. Direct Entry Application Forms are available here or from the Admissions Office.

Thanks very much for the info very helpful!
Cause i'm really looking to do animation in IADT, I got 390 in my portfolio score in animation and from what the overall points were last year (765) i'm not sure I can make that up in my leaving cert. I'm confident I can get the minimum requirements though. While I was at the interview for animation the woman I was talking to there was telling all about the swapping thing, but I was so excited that I didn't really listen, it kind of went in one ear and out the other. :) But hopefully I get my requirements for the core year and then swap after that maybe.. as long as my mind doesn't change!

When you swap do you have to start in animation year 2?

And also when you say 'Availability of places differs from year to year - in many cases no places become available' .. do spaces only become available through people dropping out of animation?

well make sure animation is your 1st choice in your CAO ,and NCAD second so if you kick ass in the leaving you might still get in! :)

about availability of spaces, there will only be room if people drop out, or fail the year (generally anyway), but there is almost always a space somewhere if they think your good enough

I would say fingers crossed you'll get in this year and do better then you expect in the leaving if not you've these options

1: see after doing core are you accepted into 2nd year. If not they may take you onto 1st year if you submit your portfolio (as it stands next year) and get a higher score combined with the LC?

2: apply to other animation courses in the Uk after core also. Worth it if your mind is really set that way. Scotland is free fees after all.

your drawing seems great, its a pity you didn't achieve a higher score, a guy in my plc was amazing at storyboards, drawing, life drawing, character development everyone assumed he'd get in but with his score its unlikely. I honestly don't know how it happened or how they're marking. Good luck!

yeah i applied to IADT a few years ago (i'm in LSAD in limerick)

i applied for graphics and got 540 but also applied for animation more so just to see what i would get (i did nothing for an animation portfolio mind) and i got 330 so its wierd how they correct them

well, I understand the portfolio required for animation would be different to fine art/graphics ect but the guy in my plcs portfolio seemed completed catered to animation, thats what surprised us the most, eh i dunno, weird though.
