I underestimated how hard the CS113 tests are. I only need to get about 25% to pass the module since the continuous assessment is worth 20% but I'm not too confident that I'll even get that much. Heres the marking scheme
Answer ALL parts of Question 1 in Section A, and
ONE question from EACH of the remaining Sections
B,C,D, and E. One third of marks for this paper is
available for Section A. All questions in Sections
B,C,D, and E carry equal marks.
I can probably get a good few of the small questions in section A right but the long questions on all the past papers look pretty hard. Would you say they give you marks for only putting down what you know about the particular concept but not actually solving the problem?

I'd say they definitely have to give people attempt marks, especially considering the appalling pass rate in recent years... I know the lecturer that takes Organic Chem offers as many points as he can, other than that I do not know for sure... I took the exam last year and I can understand why you were worried, it is the hardest module... But with the continual assessment included I'm sure you'll be fine

Good luck with your results ^^

That lec in question has become more generous in recent years since my year set the highest failure rate for CS113 2 years ago. I found it to be the analytical chemistry section the hardest to get marks on

yeah he was definitely more generous with us, even in second year... I suppose the high failure rates would reflect badly on him too... the analytical section was definitely my worst section too, and I only passed the physical section because i'd covered the topics in leaving cert physics....:(

Wait till you get to 4th year and see if he is generous with the marks HA

The CS113 exam can be a daunting task.

I sat it this year, and the exact same questions came up as in previous years. Furthermore, a lot of junior cert like questions came up. For example, in analytical (which no one really fully gets a good grasp on) the same question has come up since 2007.
