    Hi all,
NCT runs out this month, and the earliest date I could get the NCT was July 24th. I was wondering what's the legality of me driving around in June/July, with a test booked for July?

Legally... it's not legal to drive without a valid NCT when one is required. However most Gardaí are understanding souls and once you show you have a confirmed booking they'll usually let you on since you're not trying to buck the system. Don't be doing silly things that draw attention to yourself though or the lack of NCT will just become another stick to beat you with.

I booked mine in Feb, only did it last week! I was stopped once, they're always stopping for L-Platers near the college, they asked me why it was out of date, showed them the letter which said Feb on the top and they just shook their heads saying it was awful I had to wait so long. Once it's booked you're ok from my experience. They're human too. Not booked would be another story I'd imagine!

On that subject, I tried to book a test online and every place had no dates available except Donegal, I live in the south east:D. I rang the phone number and the girl said she would put me on a priority list ( date due by 21/6) and hung up straight away:rolleyes::confused:, bit rude:eek:.

Har har - my NCT was due on May 11th. For 3 months beforehand I was checking the website every week and could get nothing. On May 11th I rang up and got put on the "priority list", with a special request for a weekend booking at the Waterford centre (1/2 hour from home, can't get off work too easily). Got an appointment today - September 14th (Tuesday) @ 8.40am. Just rearranged it online for September 26th (Sunday) - over 4 months away.

To OP... of course if your car is going to fail and it is obvious the guards can still fine you for those offences!

In that case, I think I'll be without a car for a few weeks :( Luckily (?) it's summer. Will go back cycling to work.

And oh, book the driving test after the NCT. Yeah. That driving test. No way in hell I want to get stopped with no NCT and only a provisional :pac:
