    Hi all,

I have an interview tomorrow and I presume they're going to ask me about salary expectations. I've just finished a degree in Electronic & Computer Engineering. I did a 5 month internship with IBM as a Java developer, and I have done some web app development and design (PHP/MySQL) for people in my own time.

The company develop CMS software in PHP/MySQL.

Anyone know what sort of salary I should be expecting?

I get €23k a year but I'm in a small company in a niche market and you have more on your CV than me so I'd say €26k - €28k but thats just a guess.

Depends on the size of the company too.

I've been hired as a junior software engineer with a big multi national in Dublin. Will probably (hopefully) be mainly working with java, salary is €28k.

Nice! I get to work with Java, C, C++ in a mobile constrained environment and I get €5k less a year! :o

Completely depends on what you mean by senior, and what languages are used.

    50k+ at least anyway.

Its hard to say, a lot of it depends on a mix of education and experience and how well you do in their technical interviews etc..

I have a Masters in Software Engineering and am a couple of months away from a PhD along with 2 yrs industrial experience and 1.5 years lecturing (while studying). Recently got a job with a total package of 50k. In the final interview they commented on how well I did in the technical tests.. so its hard to say which part of that got me that salary.

It also depends on the company.

Some employers pay crazy money, some pay realistic money, and some are scabby.

Still hard to find good IT people even in this recession. If a grad is really good they can be easily be worth good money. But they need to have at least done an internship to be worth anything above 25k IMO. If they have a years worth of internships then im thinking 30 to 33k per year in large software houses. Assuming its a good relevant internship with some proper responsibility's.

I would say around the 28k mark for sure. With your experience taken into account. I have 2 job offers at the moment, one offering 28k and the other 33k...

    Any chance it is Accenture??

I started out in 07 on 28k, I presume starting salaries have fallen, although IT seems to have help up well, the company I work for has jobs it can't fill.

I agree with you, although i think 30-33k is too much with a yrs experience. 28k-30k

Depends on location too though, I am working in IT in the West as senior dev/software dev manager and I am a long way off that. ;)
