Route Map

I've been driving for years and have only recently come back into cycling.

For the life of me I can't make out the best route ouside of Dublin which doesn't involve the M50 or a motorway

Is there a route planner type site or app which'd give me the best route to say Portlaoise, Portarlington, Tullamore from North Dublin City Centre?

I know its very lazy on my part not to get out the aul mapbook and work it out myself but..

Hi,

I use Google Maps for route planning and either simply ask it to avoid using motorways in Car mode, or use the Walking option for more granular planning.

I'm not saying it's the best route, but it is a route that avoids motorways.

Google maps walking routes do, sometimes, throw up "interesting" suggestions. This is the Dublin to Limavady route suggested. :eek:

yeah.. seen this also.. I gues its the route with the least walking involved.. but then if one can take a ferry.. then why the feck wouldnt one jump on a train?

I also use Google Maps walking directions. The ferry thing is very annoying all right but you can drag the route back to normality easily enough.

http://www.viamichelin.com has a cycling option, although I don't know what criteria it uses, it might take you along awful back roads and over mountains.
