Refurbishing a/c compressors

I am trying to find anyone in the country who can refurb an a/c compressor for me. There are a number of companies in the UK who will supply me with a reconditioned unit. However they insist on me shipping the damaged unit as an exchange and there is the obvious additional cost of me having to ship this.

I have removed the compressor ready for repair.

    Any help would be appreciated.

By sending them your one, how much is the price of the reconed one offset?

    Quote from email...

We can supply a reconditioned compressor for £246.75, this price includes VAT, delivery and 12 months warranty.

There will also be a surcharge of £58.75, which we will credit on receipt of the old compressor.

So the price you pay for sending them your one is lost.

I think by doing it this way you're saving yourself a lot of hassle. Then again if you do find someone in Ireland to do it, you might save a few quid.

I think you should just go for this.

Yeah, it's looking like I'll have no option but to go with this as the unit I'm looking for is almost impossible to pick up here.

But if there was someone doing the repair here I'd definitely save a few bob.

Would you know someone going over to the UK by ferry? Might be possible to do the px in person and save a lot of wonga on shipping.

Was looking into this recently for a MINI, and in the end it worked out a lot cheaper to pick up a good condition second hand unit on ebay without having to send the old one back.
