Insect Bite Reaction

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a insect repellent suitable for running?

Out for about 30 mins last night and had some sort of allergic reaction when I got back home; pretty much covered head to toe in intensely itchy hives/spots. Luckily had some Clarityn on hand which eventually cleared the problem.

I’m assuming this was from insect bites and /or insect ingestion This reaction has only ever happened me once before (about a month ago) so not sure why it’s happening at this stage of my life as I’ve been running in the area for years and haven’t made any recent dietary changes. Is there a new form of aggressive midge/Irish mosquito about?:confused::confused:

If its midges try Skin So Soft by Avon. It'll keep the buggers at bay.

I got this twice while training for hurling and only once while running, when I realised at the end of last years Adidas 10-mile in Phoenix Park I had some horrible bites. I believe its due to training in or around grassy areas and the diet you follow. If you eat alot of sweet foods like fruit it may attract them to you?

As for remedies, I can't help you out there as I'd be looking for one myself :(

Tiger Balm is excellent for the itch.

They're often attracted to smells, I notice I get bitten more when I wear hair gel for example. If you use a repellant with Deet in it you'll be grand, but it's seriously toxic! By far the best way of preventing being bitten is by covering up the sensitive areas where you're most prone to being bitten (easier said than done!)
