Space in Kitchen: Should I get a dishwasher or a washer/dryer?

This is a strange one which I've been thinking about for a few months. Would like some opinions on it.

I have a one-bed apartment which has a 10 yr old+ washer-dryer in the kitchen which has been unused now for 3 years plus. Its basically banjaxed and I never thought that it dried clothes properly and so it always created more hassle than it's worth by using it. Ever since, I've been going to the local launderette with my washing (!) which seemed like an inconvenience at first but I've now gotten so used to it its just a fact of life.

I've been thinking about getting rid of the defunct washing machine and putting in a small 10 place dishwasher - purely to make my life slightly easier. But should I just get a new washer/dryer instead?

I know that it will probably vary from person to person - but I just want to see what people think. Is it totally uncommon for people to live without a washing machine in a one-bed apartment?

I've never heard of a washer/dryer that's really successful, the drum is too small to really get the clothes tumbling and airing.

I'd go for the dishwasher myself so as to have a place for dishes without having to wash things everytime I use it. It's a great keep-things-tidy device, aside from it's washing function.

    .

new ones are better at this now with the bigger kilo load etc

a new washer dryer will pay for itself in about 40 loads (no more launderette charges ) but a dishwasher is an expense to you and you still have to pay for your laundry -economics really

in a one bed apartment there shouldnt really be a need for a dishwasher ,they take about an hour and a half to complete a cycle ,sure you would have them washed and put away in 15

That's what we're really missing from our dishwasher being out of action - the kitchen isn't tidy until the washing up is done! However, in a one bedroom flat I'd probably go for the washer/ dryer to be honest. You could spend some of the savings on laundrette on disposable plates and cutlery! ;)

Have moved into a place with a washer/dryer. Hope it's decent.

I agree,I wouldn't want a washer dryer myself, but if it came to having to pay for a launderette,I'd get one.

In that case ... it's a while since I was in a launderette.

True, but it's the having to washup after every cup of tea, every sandwich, every feckin thing. I'd rather loose my TV than loose my dishwasher :)
