    Connaught Cup, Lough Mask 22/5/2010

The Connaught Angling Council held their annual Connaught Cup competition, on Lough Mask from the shores of Gortmore, Tourmakeady last Saturday. The Connaught Cup is a TAFI (Trout Angler Federation of Ireland) event, based on the principle of catch and release here in Connaught. 50 anglers participated in what could only be described as a glorious summer’s day, with temperatures of 25˚C and mirror like conditions. However, in these tough conditions 13 anglers caught fish. In the Individual competition, first prize went to Pat Feerick of Partry, with 4 fish for 30200 points, followed in 2nd place by Basil Shields of Galway & Corrib, who had 2 fish for 17000 points and in 3rd place Peter Byrne of Billberry/Lanagh with 3 fish for 15560 points. The Team competition was won by Partry Anglers with 39500 points, followed in 2nd by Galway & Corrib with 35600 and in 3rd were Corr na Móna with 22900 points.

The 13 anglers who caught fish will represent Connaught in this years TAFI Interprovincial competition, which is to be held on 12th of September from the shores of Lough Corrib, at Oughterard. Partry Anglers will represent Connaught in the team event.
