    Does anyone know step by step how to download a video from youtube.com to be opened by Windows Movie maker?

    I have a video on you tube that I want to alter before re-uploading!

    Copy the link of the youtube vid then paste it into this site:

    http://keepvid.com/

    Download in the format that you need and open it in the software that you have.

    tried this already, but when I try to open the wmv file in WMM it keeps saying error not a viable file or something.

    what format should the file be in .wmv???

    Can you put up the youtube link here? Will test it out for you if you like? PM it if preferable and I will see what I can or cannot do with it.

    As another option you could on the same page as your browser just goto: view source/ search for the video file i.e. strike F3 on your computer and type in .flv .avi etc.

    copy the link, put into the heading and it should automatically download to a saved location. from there oncce you have the file it is only a matter of manipulation of said file.

    If its your video you can go to 'my videos' section and there will be an option 'download as mp4'

    thanks all..I got it a different way...

    copy paste url into keepvid and save as link then into a programme called youtube downloader (if any one wants exact links pm me)

    works fine.

    I have something that's called "Download Helper". It's basically an icon which save to your browser bar, and when your on youtube it starts to flash, you then click on it and 'download', it's very easy to use, think it only works on Firefox though, could be wrong.

    Type in pwn before youtube... i.e http://www.pwnyoutube.com/watch?v=lduaMSZqn1Y&feature=featured.

    Follow instructions also with their handy bookmark you can just click and get the flv or high quality mp4 version.

    Download DVDVideoSoft Free Studio from the internet. It isnt a large program and there are many applications you can download seperately which is great because you only need to download what you need e.g ''Youtube to MP3''
    Free too
