Hi guys, Im 22 and I've been training in martial for years. I love boxing, but realistically I won't be competing. I enjoyed training with my college boxing club and thought it improved my fighting a lot.I'm finished college but I'd like to keep training in a boxing club. When I was 18 one coach basically told me he didn't want me starting out the club. Just wondering if this is the reception I'll get in all the gyms. Cork has a few new clubs, I would've thought they'd be happy to have members, even if only for subs. also, I'm sure non-fighters would have something to offer to the club in general. any advice would be welcome, even if you're only going to tell me I'm wasting my time

thanks. I've trained with Hicham in Mccurtain Street. Really good guy. I was training with him while training in college. Hicham's approach is different from the way most clubs train. There are pros and cons to both methods. I found a mixture of both works really well

Are most clubs so busy that they wont take adult beginners? I know it goes on alot but can never understand why. ok maybe you arent turning away too many future world champs but surely it would add to the club support, atmosphere and provide the competitors with extra sparring. Plus it would take more people off the streets and give them something to do.

I doubt it has much to do with being busy. they'd get more support if more people are involved, they'll become part of the community. the club that turned me away is five minutes from my home, i never knew it existed.

you'd be of zero benefit to them in reality, remember these people are working for nothing and there only goal is making champions, if you wont be 1 then your not adding to the club.

thats the reality im afraid, i open my club up to novices but we;re new and i want my lads fighting in the novices..most clubs are past that level already

So do you think it's worth going to one of the new clubs. There are a few in Cork that only openned a few months ago

They might be happy to take you on but in saying that they might not-there not leisure centers so most are not in the business of training people who wont compete, it would do know harm to ask but dont be offended if they cant help you, if that is the case you should check out either White collar boxing or else get private boxing lessons off a boxing coach, if you can find a personal trainer who is a boxer too they would most likely do it.
