    Hi,

Thinking of purchasing a new TV with a built in MPEG4 tuner. If i understand correctly, MPEG4 is basically the Irish DTT and MPEG 2 is the UK Freeview.

    1. If the TV i get is capable of both MPEG2 and MPEG4, can i pick up both irish and uk (i am within range) channels at the same time? Or is it one or the other?

    2. I have a satellite that is currently connected to a FTA box that picks up a fair few channels in the main room. Do i need another set top box for this new TV or does the inbuilt tuner cover this?

    Thanks

Correct and both tuned it at the same time

TV needs additional DVB-S tuner ( bog standard satellite) or a "Freesat" tuner which is DVB-S + some BBC developed bells and whistles to make menus/ teletext / program guides work

Thanks for your reply. So i am right in saying that DVB-S applies to satellite and that no TV comes with a built in DVB-S tuner as of yet, just DVB-T?

Also, i took a look at the link in your sig. I noticed that i am actualy located closer to the Welsh Freeview transmitter than i am to the Belfast transmitter (which i am currently aimed at). Should i re-align my aerial or are there any issues with doing this?

There are TV's with both but really you should be looking at the Freesat HD ones and only the ones that have been tested in this thread.

Only in S Dublin up high or Wickila or Wexford and then get a TV that supports Freeview HD as well as Irish DTT, again see that thread.

Welsh Freeview HD has a thread and NI HD is expected in 2013
