We are sorry to report the tragic death of Liam Tolan just after midnight. Some hours previous Liam had lined out for the Meath minors in the Leinster championship.

Liam was a passenger in a car which crashed near Ashbourne.

Blond haired Liam was a member of the Skryne club and earlier on Saturday afternoon had played as a corner forward for the Meath minors against Offaly in the Leinster championship. An extremely fast and tricky forward Liam had also lined out for the Meath minors in 2009.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.

Awful news. He had a great future ahead of him.
    RIP.

Someone so young, so full of life, a life which at only 17 years young was one of almost endless possibilities.

RIP, may his family, friends and all involved in Meath GAA find the strength to see these troubled times through.

To Liams parents and family.l know no words, well meant, can console you at this time now.the myriad of questions, disbelief, despair, anger, roaring for answers in your heads will be with you for a long time. from life in full torrent to oblivion, in the wink of an eye.so hard ,so cruel, so final.try to be strong for Liam's sake.as strong as he was.this life has changed for you all, forever. i can only pray and hope that the greater power outside our comprehension, helps you to come to term s with your agony and loss. in time, it will, sort of. i know, as ,i'v been there and back a few times.

So so sad. To think only a few hours before that he was kicking over a point for the Meath minor team. So hard to get your head around.

His family and teammates must be in bits :(

    RIP

Never met the lad, but seen him play once a few months back. I remember Ashbourne were playing against the senior team in my school, and I remember the players talking about Liam as one to watch, that he was "a brilliant player, with hapes of skill and speed"

Just last friday, before his quarter final, I was talking to one of the lads on the Longford minor team, and talking about the different semi final and final scenarios, if they get that far of course, and again, Liam's was one of the names that popped up in conversation. Great admiration and respect for him, lads counties away have heard his name, long before this tragedy occured.

such a sad loss, my heart goes out to his family, friends and all those that have had to privilage to play with or against him. :(

    RIP pet.
