Hey Guys, just a quick question.

Honda Accord Import, 1997. When I turn the key, the SRS warning light does not light up with the rest of the lights on start up, such as oil light and enging light etc....

Is it supposed to be on? If so what could the issue be?

    Thanks!

Either the bulb is blown or doesn't exist.

Brilliant, should have noticed it when I bought it..... So obvious follow up question, what can I do to fix it? (or would any mechanic be able to remove the cluster and replace the bulb for me)?

Did it ever light up since you owned the car? Or did you not notice. I dont know if you are any good with cars, but I am sure anyone who knows and fixes cars mechanic or not should be able to remove the instrument panel to check the bulb. It could also be a connection problem too, maybe under the seat.Or fault with the air-bag ecu, or the wiring reel in the steering wheel.Be extra careful though when removing anything concerning the air-bag. Remove the battery connection for at least 30 min before hand.

if your car has ever been crashed, has recaro seats or has any modification to the front bumper, seats or seatbelts chances are it has been disconnected, it has its own little plug behind the dash console, if its disconnected its probably done because the light was staying on due to a faulty SRS module or one of those mods

Yea it has a body kit on it and previous owner looks to have run another pair of wires and put blue spot lights on the bumper..... can it be fixed??

Sorry didnt see Jimmy's post, in a word no. Im hopeless when it comes to anything remotely motor related

Not to worry.God knows what the previous owner has done:rolleyes:.Obvious thing is to try the bulb first, and then try other possibilities. By the way is the horn working? If it is then its not the cable reel in the steering wheel then.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

Just be aware that a non-functioning airbag light is an NCT fail item now.....

First thing to do is get the cluster out and check the bulb.

Cool I'll see if this mechanic down my way will do it and not charge me a small fortune.... Last time I tried to take the cluster out I couldn't get it past the steering wheel....

Did you check if there's a separate SRS fuse ?
Someone might've pulled out the fuse to mask the problem before selling it on.

Your SRS light should light up for a few secconds when you turn on the ignition. My guess would be that someone took out the bulb in the dashboard as it was staying on the whole time.

Mine came on when I was rooting around with the stero(my car is a 97 imported civic sir). I ignored it for the past two years, my car needs nct so I sent my car into Tom fox Honda in drogheda. Cost 50€ and only took 45mins . They said that they can fix it 9/10 times.

I would imagine that this is only in cases where the car wasnt involved in an accident as there may be a lot of sensors etc which may be damaged in the crash and may cost more to get fixed (just guessing here).

Also be carefull with the SRS system, dont go messing around with airbag wires etc unless you know what your at. They can cause real bad injuries if they go off in your face!

Thanks man, I think it would be better bringing it to a Honda dealer
