Just wondering if there were building regulations around in 1970 - I can find English ones for 1965 but nothing for Ireland.

    Thanks

I am pretty sure there were no building regs in 1970. My understanding is that there were none until at least 1990 when the building control act came in.

I am open to correction though.....

Considering there is no enforcement or independent checking. Don't think it matters wether they exist now or ever.

Really really not helpful - its for a thesis so I have to say the building complied with building regulations if they existed!!!!!!!!!

You should look out for building bye-laws which may have been in force in the particular county you're dealing with - but as an earlier poster said, no regulations prior to 1990.

The Building Control Bill 1984 took till 1990 to get made law. A fair few bits of even that still have not been implemented (e.g. certificates of compliance).

The folloing Seanad debate outlines the situation prior to that:

Prior to the adoption of the Bldg Regs; in Dublin construction was controlled by Building Bye-laws which were in force since 1949, monitored by Dublin Corporation
