Well L96 PDI hop up adjustment problem

I fitted a PDI hop up into my Well L96 (much fun). It has two hop up arms with two adjustment screws. Unfortunately they are just under the cylinder head and can only be adjusted when the magazine is out and the bolt drawn back. You screw them out (upwards) to increase hop. Before I got to the point where the bb's head skywards I had them raised so far that they were preventing the cylinder head from engaging with the barrel. I'm wondering if anyone else had this problem?

I guess I could either buy a shorter pair (where?) or cut them shorter (how?)

    Thanks to any who reply.
